It's okay, Phil - I know you don't really mean it... its the pipe talking. Not you. You just need some help, that's all... ;) Anyway... hmm, "Next to You"... probably doesn't even exist as a B-side. The smart money says its hiding on some studio tape somewhere being saved as a bonus track for a greatest hits CD or something. I don't think the record company would hide an entire B-side track on some obscure single release, ala something along the lines of a lost 12" Austrian "Cruising for Bruising" single. And it probably is a leftover from the LWNY writing days... the closest she and Danny ever got to being "prolific" when it came to songwriting. OR it may even be a song that they wrote for someone else... someone may want to go to their local record store and look up that song in the "big yellow book" and see if its listed under another artist's name. Who knows? Most sucessful music is not very creative. I have always enjoyed "An Olive Tree". Both the rhythms and message attracted my attention. Having only slightly more musical training than the average american (I played french horn in junior high and high school band) It would be very interesting to see sheet music for all of Basia's work. > >I've found that the only way to suck people into the trap is to play >"Cruising..." or "Time And Tide" for them, to elicit a small "hey this >sounds familiar" from them. Our divine diva has not appeared in public in quite some time and it's depressing. Has anyone ever asked her why? Remember that when Streisand went on tour last year, it was her first time in over 20 years and when she was asked why, she replied that she was actually afraid to go on stage. Until she was actually asked, no one knew why she had a 20 year hiatus from appearing on stage. We as her greatest fans shouldn't upset our greatest singer with rumor, inuendo (sp?), or second-guessing. Let's just take her for what she is: Basia. Nothing more, and nothing less. Here's to you, oh one with the velvet voice. I hope someday to see you in concert during this lifetime. Ed ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Oct 1997 08:30:45 -0700 From: "Diane F. Nice "crack", Phil! (heh!) I'm going to see Peter White today, I'll see if he remembers anything about this tune. (such as, did they record it???) I'm new on this list! Hi out there! May I introduce myself? Martin, 22,m, from Frankfurt/Germany By accident I found the Basia-Mailing-List, just didn't know, that there are still some other Basia fans on the net! Though Basia is not very popular in Germany, I sometimes feel like "living behind the moon" when I am trying to get connected to other Basia fans, or even want talk about her great songs . I play piano and keyboards by myself, naturally trying to play those great Danny White piano solos included in Basia's songs. But it is not easy to get sheet music of Basia in Germany, furthermore I do not know, if anyone printed the solos in those books. I collect everything I can get, but unfortunately do not know, what is available on the market. Does anyone have a list of all (official/inofficial) CD/records/GM/Midi Files/Photos? I only posses some promos and some promo photos of Basia.....unfortunately.... So, all Basia-fans reading this: Just write a short e-mail to me, if you are interested in contact, or if you can help me in contributing to Basia network, so that she gets more popular here in Germany. If anyone has latest information on her projects, CD's, or tour -> please, please let me know....... I hope to hear from you!!
