On "The Best Remix" imports from Japan... the first one (volume 1) is worth getting, mainly for the CD versions of several tracks that were only available on 12" LPs or cassette singles here in the US. The "street" version of "Baby You're Mine" is one of my favorite Basia arrangements. The second remix album isn't as useful, with half the tracks duplicating the US EP _Brave New Hope_. The only unique tracks on that are an instrumental "Freeze Thaw" (from the US New Day For You cassette single) and an extended "Prime Time TV". The packaging for the first disc is very nice, however, with the gold inlay lettering and a beautiful booklet. The second disc pales in comparison -- the artwork is reused and the booklet has no pictures. If you're a completeist, get both. Otherwise, I'd recommend the first disc but not the second. - -- Benjamin L. Fisli" Subject: Aloha! I have returned - 70 emails (I dropped off one HUGE mailing list so this is not as big as it could have been!) to wade through - figured I'd drop a note to say hello and I'm back to everyone here! Peter White's shows were great at the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival. But no, sorry, Basia did not show... Basia's name was in the air because the program said "Peter White plus Special Guest" and EVERYONE seemed to hope that Basia would show up. Nice to see that people still would like to see her again... I'm going to try to get PW to pass along the word - unless Nicholas is still lurking on the list and would like to tell her himself! :) I will have some photos and a story up on Peter's website when I get the negs processed... Took about 20 rolls - WHEW - but not all PW... Catalina was beautiful, saw some flying fish (what a trip - they really DO fly!), the rare Catalina Island fox, lots of cats (jazz cats, and four-legged furry cats too) (HA!), lots of deer, California quail, harbor seals, hawks, pelicans, cormorants, and hummingbirds. Mahalo! (one of the fest performers was a terrific Hawaiian slack-key guitarist by the name of Keaolo Beamer - if you like quiet, folky guitar with some really nice soft singing of pretty songs, you should check him out!) Back to work! :) TTFN! --Di. Work is the curse of the drinking classes. --Oscar Wilde ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V2 #173 ***************************
