Still, there were a lot of folks at the two shows I saw in Boston, each representing many other Basia fans in the wilds of New England who buy her albums. And isn't that the bottom line...CD buyers? I doubt that Japanese purchases have allowed her albums to go platinum, yet her newest release (as posted here last week) comes out there, but not here! And what about Latin America? After all, it's "...Cuban music, Brazilian, really..." that she loves most, yet why won't Basia tour there, leaving Tati and our other listers from that huge region out in the cold if they want to see her perform. There is something wrong with her management as I have often stated before, or she is being used by SONY for some dark, sinister anti-Basiafan purpose. First time I sent it - it wasn't nearly as interesting, and when it didn't get posted I figured it didn't get in and then sent it again with the Basia addition. It's very cool to see all the people on the list pop up, and interesting to see where they're from. I don't mind it if someone "archives" these statistics and puts them up on the web somewhere. Just as long as there's a link to my email (just in case some long-lost love happens along and recognizes my name and decides he wants to rekindle the romance!) I just don't think Basia is really driven by money or fame. I don't think she wants to become a "superstar" with all the hype, and attention that goes with it. That is not what she and her music are about. But of course we as fans tend to want her to become this pop icon because we can't get enough of her music. You know it's ironic, but perhaps the very thing that makes us enjoy her so much is that we don't get enough of her music, and we are always waiting in anticipation of more. It's like eating, you enjoy the food more when your hungry than after you are full. I have this "feeling" about Basia's music that is hard to explain. I would love to see a phenomenon start that would be similar to Jimmy Buffet's "parrotheads." Basia's music takes me (and perhaps others) to a different state of mind. It is one of warm tropical nights, Latin music, interesting people, exotic locals, romance, intrigue, ect. Kind of like a "theme!" Basia's music has kind of an "international" feel to it, as Basia lends her East European interpertation of Latin Jazz. She doesn't sing in Spanish that I can recall, perhaps that is why she doesn't tour in Latin America. Perhaps even though she likes Latin jazz, she is not very familiar with Latin culture, or not comfortable with the idea of touring in Latin America. Perhaps I am way off the mark on this. I was thinking the other day that Basia fans could get together and organize a kind of Basia theme party, with just those elements that I mentioned. Just a thought!!!
