I live in Brockton and it seems like the only places I ever get to hear Basia are Paperama, Caldors and Bradlees! The only way I know when a new album has come out is by poring over the Columbia music site every few months. I've tried asking at Record Town or Strawberrys. The usual response is: a new *what album? The runner up is: is that some sort of new age group? - -- ciao,j Omniscient@ThePentagon.com http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/7695/ellipse6.html The Babylon 5 Pages, Enter the fray... How about starting with a Roll >Call? > >Who is on the list? Where are you from? Year Basia overtook your life!...< So here I go: Who am I? Jacli akaThePowersThatBe/OmniscientOne/Ninevrise :) Where am I from? Originally Alexandria,VA currently stuck in Massachusetts, USA Plan to move to NH,USA by end of year and Costa Rica by 1999. Year Basia overtook my life? I first saw and heard Basia (said soft, with reverence) on a video with Swing Out Sister on VH1 in early 1988. I was thunderstuck. I had walked into the room during the middle of the video, lured by that captivating voice. Since VH1 had a habit of playing and replaying the same videos over and over again. I hit record on the ol VCR and left for work. Ten hours later I reviewed nearly 8 hours of tape before they had done more than display an abbreviated version of the video. According to the vj the response had been so intense that VH1 decided to put on a short interview with the group. Course, my tape ran out 3 or 4 minutes into it. But not before they had introduced Basia. I searched high and low for a Basia album and haven't looked back. What about Basia hooked me? The sheer beauty of her voice. That was the first thing. Oh! And the music... The wonderful rhythems and the bonus of wonderful lyrics! Her voice spoke to me. As a singer myself I have always had a strong appreciation of those performers that truly love their craft (it shines through in their voice) and an even stronger aversion to singers who sing merely to show what they can do. Basia's joy of singing and generousity of spirit luminate all her work. And it was that, which (even more than my first Basia album LWN) truly hooked me and has kept me hooked ever since. Favorite Basia tunes? That's a hard one. I haven't met a Basia Tune I didn't like. But my all time faves are: Yearning; Olive Tree; Astrud; New Day for You; Forgive and Forget; Ordinary People; Copernicus and Take Him Back. Sorry, I can't choose a favorite album.:) Personal Musical Interests/fave performers? Latin Pop (Luis Miguel!, Luis Angel, Brasil66, Selena, Basia!) Latin Rythem (Luis Enrique, India!!, Tito Puente, Sheila E.) (i.e, Salsa, Meringue, Mambo!, anything with bongos, etc) Nostalgic (Gershwin, Julie London, Billie Stewart, Nat King Cole) Mellow Jazz(Herb Alpert, Kitaro,Beverly Craven,KD Lang) Country (Lyle Lovett, Shania Twain, KD Lang) Melissa Etheridge, Take 6, Amy Grant,Barbara Streisand,Alanis Morrisette, Madonna, Boys to Men, Shawn Colvin,Blood Sweat & Tears, LL Cool J, Bread, Sly and the Family Stone, Gerardo, The Artist, Salt n Peppa are also favorites too. - -- ciao,j Omniscient@ThePentagon.com http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/7695/ellipse6.html The Babylon 5 Pages, Enter the fray... I was really hoping you would do something like this. Since I'm still a new kid on the block it was great to meet the folks Anders, Mike, Stephen, Elfego, Troels, David, Willie, Rick, Tony, Vince, Dr. Dirk, Sheryl, Beverly... Oh and Phil you were absolutely right about the Boston market being unreceptive. That's why it broke my heart when you said that Basia was actually here in 90 & 94! I never knew. I was really surprised to see how many men as opposed to females are on the list. There have to be more of us than are represented here:) BTW, I've been apart from my pc for a while but if you are still looking for someone to add the roll call to a web page I'm still working on my Basia page. I'd be glad to add a copy of it to my page if you like. Just lemme know. Also, it was gratifying to see that I'm not the only one who gets blank looks when I mention the Divine Ms. B to other people. That's why I want to get a page on her out there, not because I could do better than what's already out there (since Lord knows that's not true) but because I want Basia fever to catch on, y'know? My Mommy is Jacli. She is on the list. I am on the list too. But you didn't know it huh? I do not write alot. But Mommy lets me read all the letters that she thinks it is okay for me to read. I like Basia very much. I love all of her songs. I have been listening to her ever since I can remember. But Mommy says I listened to her when I was in her belly too. Mommy's belly I mean. My favorite Basia song is yearning and crusing for a bruising. And I have never seen Basia except on TV. But one day when I am a grown up and Mommy lets me go to concerts I will. I want to meet her now though. Okay, I am gonna go now. Papa put my chess game in the super nintendo. bye.
