Um... thank you. :-) Jacki ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jul 1997 18:59:59 -0400 (EDT) From: jacki@magicnet.net (Jacki) Subject: Re: Newbie >Hi Jacki (with no e). This is Denis with one n. Sorry Denis for not getting back to you quicker than this, but I haven't been on this thing lately (getting into too much trouble, err chatting, on AOL). And also I didn't pay my magicnet account on time so it was shut off for a few days until I realized it... so if I was un-subscribed, someone (Ben?) please subscribe me again... Thanks! >Glad for the introduction but >you did not tell us much about your introduction to Basia. WHen and how did >you become familiar with her and her music? Well Denis, I'm not new to the list... I just don't talk much. And I don't think I ever did give my report on "How I became a Basia Fan", so I'll do it now. I heard Time & Tide on the radio one day, liked it and ran out and bought a copy, been hooked ever since. End of Story. I did get to see her in concert once. I was coming home from work and the radio said she was having a concert that night... what luck, it was my night off! I went all by myself, and only when I got back to work wearing her t-shirt did I find a few other Basia fans. And now I'm waiting for '98 to get here... hoping she'll come around again... and saving my pennys incase she doesn't come too close to me. I'll stalk her from town to town... probably see Phil there too. ;-) >By the way how many of you out there think Danny White is a great piano >player and shoul also produce his own album in addition to one with >Basia???? I woudl also love to hear him play a solo concert too. Me! Me! Me! I tickle the ivorys a little myself... Danny's the greatest! Jay Beckenstein was his usual great self on all the standards. I believe he did the solo on Yearning cut for the Basia on Broadway concert album. The Tom Schulman on keyboard was great and I especially liked Julio Fernandez on guitar. They all were great. The concert was at Locus Valley, Long Island, at the Planting fields, (NY state park) and hosted by the friends of the arts, a non profit organization. Comming up in the August and September timeframe will be : the Rippingtons 8/31/97, Natalie Cole 8/16/97 and Dave Valentin 9/9/97. For info call 516 922-0061. There are two kinds of tickets under the tent up close to the stage and on the lawn (blankets & chairs). The tent tickets were $32 and the lawn was $22. The weather was great ang a fine night of jazz under the stars. The planting fields is on the north shore (Long Island sound) about 30 miles from Manhattan. Its good to know jazz sometimes can come to you. It was about a 20 minute ride for me. Anyway glad to share this with you. Peter dropped me a short note saying he will be in NYC 8/21 at the JR music jazz festival at the park near city hall in New york. I don't know what time yet. Take care. See ya all.
