I am another newbie too. I am a little bit jealous to all af you who live in USA or England. I never saw her live concert. I live in Indonesia, that Bali is just a small island in Indonesia. Perhaps all of you more know Bali than Indonesia. I heard Basia had visited Indonesia a couple years ago with Matt Bianco. That time I did not know Basia yet. I hope she will visit Indonesia again to make a concert and meet her fans here. Is there a plan for her visit Indonesia again ? If yes, I'm sure there are so many people will come to her concert. Rahadian Widiadi PS : Sorry if my English is so bad. My native language is Bahasa Indonesia, not English. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Jul 1997 13:12:47 -0400 (EDT) From: Samurai27@aol.com Subject: Re: Newbie In a message dated 97-07-01 22:51:25 EDT, you write: << Jacki (with no e) >> Hi Jacki (with no e). This is Denis with one n. Glad for the introduction but you did not tell us much about your introduction to Basia. WHen and how did you become familiar with her and her music? By the way how many of you out there think Danny White is a great piano player and shoul also produce his own album in addition to one with Basia???? I woudl also love to hear him play a solo concert too. Well that all for now. We'll have to keep it in mind (or what's left of 'em). Yes, Spyro Gyra did indeed open. After their set I went up to the beer tent, and was returning to my seat (lower stage left, with an oblique but clear and close view of the on stage shenannigans) when the synth opening to TSI sort of took over reality. I think I floated back to my seat - can't remember walking down the aisles!. HarborLights is kind of a strange gig, and I've heard that some acts HATE the acoustics, and I confess I was occasionally distracted by the 747s taking off from Logan over Basia's left shoulder. I preferred the Orpheum myself, even tho the place is a dump, it is more intimate and closer to the T. I sometimes park up in Malden and ride it in. The Fan Pier area is kind of a wasteland.... All I know about Indonesia I learned in a very good film called 'The Year of Living Dangerously', starring Mel Gibson and a pre-Alien Sigourney Weaver. I doubt it played out your way. As for Bali, I seem to recall seeing a documentary/travelogue about the great surfing spots there are there. ALso, I gather your ladies are very good dancers! > > I heard Basia had visited Indonesia a couple years ago with Matt Bianco. > That time I did not know Basia yet. > I hope she will visit Indonesia again to make a concert and meet her fans > here. We are all wondering when she will tour ANYWHERE again, or even release a new CD. But Rahadian you are yet another example of her world-wide appeal, and also how great the Internet is in pulling us all together here. If only it could get us free airline tickets to your island for her show, and afterward you could takes us all out to lunch! > > Rahadian Widiadi > > PS : Sorry if my English is so bad. > My native language is Bahasa Indonesia, not English. > OK, RW, your English is horrible - does that make you feel better? ;-) Be glad you have an educational system that gave you a second language. Ours (American) is too busy teaching kids how to get along with one another by promoting their differences, instead. If you ever figure out how this relates to an education, please let me know! Phil ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Jul 1997 20:27:35 -0500 (CDT) From: Martin55@ix.netcom.com Subject: nutha newbie With all the newbies introducing themselves, I thought I should join in! I'm English, and I've been living in the Philadelphia (USA) suburbs for eleven years (I'm 42). I got smitten by Basia in 1988. I was in a Comedy Club on South Street in Philadelphia, and they were playing a tape of various artists before the comedians came on. Suddenly, I heard this clear, beautiful voice singing over a funky, mesmerizing beat and was immediately captivated. I found out it was Basia ( the song was Cruisin' for Bruisin'). I bought the Time and Tide Album the next day and played it and played it and played it. When London, Warsaw, New York came out a few months later, I played that over and over too. I was afraid I would get sick of them, as I usually do when I do that, but I never did. Then I bought the piano music for those albums - boy, those rhythms of Danny's are really tough to play! When The Sweetest Illusion came out I bought the CD and the piano music right away. My favorite tracks are (one per album): Promises, Reward, and Drunk on Love. I saw her perform at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City when she was promoting The Sweetest Illusion, and was thrilled to discover that on top of being a brilliant singer, she has a genuinely warm personality. I am also a big fan of latin rhythms (Brazilian music, in particular), and I love that ingredient in Basia's music. Basia, please don't desert us - we need you!
