I first heard Basia on a top 40 station where I live in '87. The amazing thing, now that I think about it, is the fact that they used to play her vids on MTV back then. I've been a fan ever since and have been on the email list for about two months getting a feel for the general context. I must say that things seem more easy going without Roach mediating. Sorry Roach! I have been "just watching" on the list for a while. My name is Kathie and I live in Massachusetts - I bought a Greenpeace benefit album oh, maybe 8 years ago, and "Miles Away" was on it. The song really captivated me and I went out and bought Time and Tide, and this is how I got hooked! I was very lucky and got to see Basia perform on the "London Warsaw New York" tour, in Boston. The audience was infuriating - they just SAT there! Everyone finally got up when she sang "Til You Come Back To Me" - but only because she TOLD them to! But the show was wonderful. Maybe one day she'll forgive us and come back... and that'll be all I have to say for another couple of months probably! :) Kathie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 1997 20:43:51 -0500 From: Tatiana Carvalho Subject: "Baby you're mine" ;-) Hi people!! ;-) Good to hear there's a lot of "newbies"...Well, my name is Tatiana Carvalho,I'm 21 and I'm from Brasil(Rio de Janeiro), the city of Tom Jobim the "author" of the beautiful song "Girl from Ipanema"(music also from Vinícius de Moraes) and "Waters of March"- the one Basia recorded and it's in the album BOB(Basia On Broadway), I loved "the way" she sang this song!!! It was brilliant, as always...Lovely to know that she apreciates brazilian music! Well, the first music I heard from her was "Baby you're mine"!!! I just loved her "at first sight"...and then I started looking for all her Cd's...(also bought some from the Matt Bianco, but i'm still looking for the ones when she still was the "backing-vocal"...), I also bought her video, one more reason to like her, the interview was fantastic, she seems so nice!!! My dad also loves her!!! And yes, it's so good to hear Basia singing in a restaurant,or even in the radio...I just start laughing and yelling: Yeah! It's Basia!! One dream: to be able to see one of her shows!!! I would love that! Waiting for the "new Cd"...who knows then I can travel to N.Y city or someother place where she will be with her show...hope she does another tour!! Would be fantastic! I've been in this list for about some months...And loving it! Kisses to everyone and WELCOME to the newbies... Tati Carvalho e-mail: stcarvalho@infolink.com.br Hope to hear from you all!!! P.S: Sorry my english guys! ;-) Hope it's not "so bad" :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 1997 23:19:43 -0400 (EDT) From: Phil Hall Subject: Re: "Baby you're mine" ;-) On Mon, 30 Jun 1997, Tatiana Carvalho wrote: > Hi people!! ;-) >=20 > Good to hear there's a lot of "newbies"...Well, my name is Tatiana > Carvalho,I'm 21 and I'm from Brasil(Rio de Janeiro), the city of Tom > Jobim the "author" of the beautiful song "Girl from Ipanema"(music also > from Vin=EDcius de Moraes) and "Waters of March"- the one Basia recorded > and it's in the album BOB(Basia On Broadway), I loved "the way" she sang > this song!!! It was brilliant, as always...Lovely to know that she > apreciates brazilian music!=20 >=20 It was Roach who notified the Basia-L Basia fans that she had recorded 'Waters', and this was based on his research into the way Sony distriubutes their releases. This is because 'Waters of March' is not included in the American release of BOB, which has something else called 'Drrzzzsbh Bhgrftrter' (I don't have the album at hand to transcribe the title, sorry) so it was Big News at the time. So you have the release with the Jobim tune which for some reason we are denied, and we are all jealous as hell because if there is ONE THING we want, it is NEW BASIA MATERIAL! As for Tom Jobim, he is a personal hero of mine, and I know others here love his music also. It is too bad he is no longer with us to write more great stuff. =20 > Well, the first music I heard from her was "Baby you're mine"!!! But I recall things really got hot as the show moved on, and while she did get us to get up to 'Til You etc..' it was because she said it was the only really danceable tune left to do....It was a great show, and there were several encores. Kathie: she did forgive us - she came back to do Harborlights (you know that big white tent on the water?) in '94 to promote _The Sweetest Illusion_. THAT was a great show, too! Now all we have to do is hang on until 1998... Phil ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V2 #110 ***************************
