That's funny. Peter knew he'd "arrived" the moment he heard "Time Passages" (which he co-wrote with Al 'Year of the Cat' Stewart) as muzak... He then got grumpy about things when he heard himself on the radio playing Al Stewart's "Ghostly Horses of the Plain" - which is all his own guitar work and LOVELY - and it was attributed to Al Stewart (who co wrote it with Steve Recker, but didn't sing a single note on the tune!). Peter thought, "HEY, that's ME!!!" and decided then and there that he had to get his OWN music out there on the radio. I hear him all the time with Basia on muzak... It's one of those things where the muzak is playing so softly that it permeates your subconscious and then you faintly hear something naggingly familiar... I'm always stopping dead in my tracks and pointing to the speakers in the ceiling... "Basia!" I exclaim outloud, and people stare at me and move away... (HA!) Then I smile because it's Peter playing the guitar too... AND NOW I hear Peter all the time in muzak in my grocery. I have to restrain myself from running down the aisles calling to everyone, "I know this guy!!! I *KNOW* this guy!!!" Silly, isn't it? But it sure does make me smile. :) Glad to hear people are getting out to see G&S&M. They put on a great show - - I am going to be fortunate enough to see it three more times (so far) before the tour as it is announced at this time is over... I sure do wish someone would "light a fire" under Basia and get her and Danny working on that album... I'd LOVE to see her in concert again. TTFN! --Di. Muzak isn't really heard too much anymore. That company took songs, did their own arrangements and recorded them with their own orchestras. The arrangements were actually very bland versions of the songs and the only thing notable about them was that they were barely recognizable when you did happen to listen to them. The service was developed to subconsciously put shoppers in a buying mood. They weren't supposed to notice it - it truly was background music. To make it worse, the audio was delivered on a subcarrier of a local FM station (most cities did this) and that limitation made the fidelity really awful. In my younger days, I looked after a system for a department store here. I got the chance to listen to it for eight hours a day, and I absolutely hated it. What you hear these days is a full-fidelity service off satellite with actual contemporary recordings. I don't believe much scientific thought is put into programming these channels - as far as making people part with their money, but they are arranged in general musical groups. Basia's music seems to transcend these genres, but you don't hear any alternative stuff in the stores, do you? I hear her a lot also. Certainly much more than I ever did on the radio around this town. Funny thing, I look up at the speakers and smile, too. Ah, the secret fraternity. (We probably need a handshake and password :) We have a digital cable radio receiver in our office at work, and sometimes the younger folk let me listen to the contemporary jazz channel. I was telling them one day that I didn't hear Basia as often as I used to on that service and wouldn't you know it, that evening at home "Drunk On Love" came on. Later, when we were out shopping, I heard "Take Him Back Rachel" in the store. Really made my evening. In fact been back for a week or so but have been toooooooooooooooo busy to get involved. BTW on return from Cairo to London. We circled over Biggen Hill for about 15 minutes. I kept on waving but she did not wave back :( :( . Mind you did have a Basia sighting on several occasions in India. They had a local promo for a tv special on the Indian MTV network, and lo and behold there was Basia. Unfortunately left India (the second time) before the show came on. Now thinking of it that would be special seeing Basia in a Tamil movie :) > Dennis reports: > > > Well, we had an enjoyable time last night at the Guitars, Saxes > >and More concert.
