Hmmm... if I resequence the tape to do newest clips first, then that would give me a little time to get new copies of the older items I got from you. Here is whats up. The clips I see tend to fade a little on brightness levels -- like the record deck's automatic gain control was trying to deal with a poor signal -- it looks like weak MacroVision. There are also a lot of dropouts in "Astrud -- Carson 88". The LWNY Arsenio clip has major time-base problems in both the performance and the interview. There are similar problems with the Regis and Kathy Lee clip -- but that one I have on my own tapes. Oddly enough, the 94 Letterman clip is fairly good -- none of the TB errors of the other clips. I guess its a judgement call. I've got all of the TSI and LWNY clips myself, although my 1994 Leno is off-air (no cable when that aired) so its got interference problems. Why not try a test copy of a clip or two and see if that came out OK. Clips I have very good copies of are: Leno (1990) -- Cruising For Bruising / Baby You're Mine VH1 LWNY special (1990) A New Day / Prime Time TV Letterman (1994) -- My Cruel Ways Good Morning America (1994) -- She Deserves It Video -- Drunk on Love Video -- Third Time Lucky Arsenio (1994) -- An Olive Tree Lauren Hutton And... (1995) FX Morning Show (1995) -- Half a Minute Regis and Kathy Lee (1995) -- Half a Minute Ones that are usable but really could be better are Carson (1988) -- Time and Tide / Astrud Letterman (1988) -- Run For Cover Letterman (1990) -- Best Friends Arsenio (1990) -- Until You Come Back to Me I'm not going to include any videos from T&T and LWNY since they are available on "A New Day" which can still be purchased. If I have room, I might include the VH1 special with the "whole" videos cut out, leaving the credits, brief clip of "Whose Side Are You One?", making of "Cruising For Bruising", and so forth. For distribution purposes, this will be under two hours. That is all you can fit on most VHS tapes without using long or extended play. That is already more than you can put on most 3/4" tapes -- 60 minutes is the general max length. Wow... looking at all the clips, this thing is already 90 minutes without adding the VH1 special or the "Lauren Hutton And..." inteview. I'll try to update the video website with this new info tomorrow from work. Thanks to all your support out there! And of course, if you know of something I've missed -- please let me know! - -- Benjamin L. From her album called _London Warsaw New York_, this is who? Crowd: Basia!!! [after song] A: Boy! Basia! Now, who wrote that song? B: It was written by Stevie Wonder and a couple of other guys. But Stevie Wonder must be one of my al timne favorite writers. A: And Stevie must be getting paid, because you remade this song, Mikki Howard has done a remake, Aretha Franklin did a one years ago. You like Aretha? B: Well, she must be my most favorite singer, obviously. And that song is one of those songs that is definitely in my top 10 of all time. But unfortunately, I never wanted to do any covers in my life because I thought you'd have to do it as good or better but I never thought that I could top that song that was so brilliantly done by Aretha. But last time we went on tour to America, we played some cover version just because one album wasn't enough to fill a show. And one of the covers was "Until You Come Back to Me" and people reacted to it so well and the record company urged me to record a cover, and Mikki Howard recorded her version. A: But there a little different, aren't they? B: Yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong with two people recording the same song, it only goes to show how good the original was. A: Yeah. Now off the music thing, does that top hurt? B: No. No, it doesn't. A: From here it looks like it hurts. [Clenches teeth, grrs] B: No, no, not at all. A: Can I see? [After an odd look, Basia opens her top, showing her bra top.] A: It looks like it would hurt, like you'd be in pain. I know that you're kind of in pain, can I catch what you have? B: It's bronchitus, unfortunately. I caught it a few days ago and unfortunatly, we had to cancel a show yesterday in Phoenix and two days ago in San Diego. A: But you didn't cancel this, thanks for coming! B: I really wanted to come. A: So, its not [baker's] throat, its bronchitus, you have. B: Tomorrow we're playing here, so I need to be fit. A: You're at the Ampitheater here. I saw a big thing of you on Sunset. A big billboard. B: My God! Yes, its scary. A: You didn't like it? B: Well, I'd never seen myself in that size. I've never played such a big venue. It's a step up. A: I have some friends going to Poland, can you recommend some good restaurants. B: Well, yes. In Warsaw, in the Kracow region, the capital of Poland, in south Poland, there are some wonderful restaurants. There is a lot to eat there still. A: I might come and check you out at the Ampitheater. Does it bother you when you see people you know? B: It does. Actually, we were playing in Santa Barbra, and someone told me just before I went on stage that Michael Douglas was in the audience, and through the first three songs, I couldn't concentrate. I kept thinking about all the films I'd seen him in. I was just somewhere else, so I told everybody next time, please don't tell me because its rather frightening. A: But isn't it harder if you don't know, and you're singing your heart out, and you look down and there's Fred "Re-run" Barry in the front row, and it catches you off-guard? Wouldn't you rather know? B: Well, that could be a nice surprise. Of course, its always a huge compliment if you recognize someone in the audience well-known. I don't know if anyone would... [Basia and Arsenio start to get into a hand slapping contest.] A: You can only see that first couple of rows because of the spotlight, right? B: That's right, I'm always waiting for the end of the song. [Basia and Arsenio start wrestling on the couch] B: My God! How did you know I love that? A: I never had a sister to fight with. B: Oh, really. I used to beat my brothers up. A: Really, We gotta take commercial, we'll be right back. This is Basia, Basia! A few months ago, I asked if anyone has heard of a connection between Basia and the classic British science fiction TV series "Doctor Who". You all looked at me funny... something understandable. Well, in looking though some old text files, I finally found what my brain had files away long ago! This is a capture of messages that were in the Basia thread on the Music Roundtable on GEnie from back in 1991. I had downloaded this back when the commercial online services were still significant (I'm not even sure that GEnie still exists!). I've now put the whole thing up at BasiaWeb, but the key message is included below: (13) Music RT Category 2, Topic 9 Message 12 Thu Jan 24, 1991 J.POLTRONE [Cerebus] at 19:53 EST Am I the only one here that saw her special on VH-1 some time ago, promoting "London Warsaw New York"? It was a half-hour program, ttouching on some of the songs on the new album, and talking about her music. She was also on David Letterman last year. She performed "Best Friends". As for the CD availability of "Whose Side Are You On?", I couldn't tell you. I picked up the album a *long* time ago ('86, I believe.) Sidenote: Basia also made an appearance on "Doctor In Distress", a Band-Aid type of record where British pop stars tried to raise funds for the BBC to save the "Doctor Who" program, which was put on hiatus. I couldn't tell where she was in the performance; I don't believe she had a solo part. The Beeb turned down the money, which went towaards cancer research. In fact, it was through "Doctor Who" that I first heard of Matt Bianco, and Basia. In an interview, Colin Baker (one of the actors that has played the Doctor) said that he liked to listen to Matt Bianco. I thought I'd give it a try. As they say, the rest is history. - -Cerebus - -- Benjamin L. Re: Roach - Last winter during a chat session Jeff mentioned he was going off to Australia for a school-related gig. This would have taken place in May or June, I thought, so God knows where he is or what he is fiendishly cooking up. Interesting....far more so than Dr. Who. I have tried to watch the thing I don't know how many times and end up looking for a BASEBALL game or anything. Even the guy who played Tristin in "All Creatures Great and Small" couldn't salvage it for me. Is that the one who listened to Matt Bianco? Sorry to bear disappointing news, but there is no sign of anything new from Basia. There is hope that if she likes to be consistent, then we can expect a release four years following her last. This means that following 'The Sweetest Illusion' in 1994, '_______' will be released sometime in 1998. But we are nothing if not patient here, and to pass the time lots of us here pretend we aren't judgemental about Basia's work ethic.
