I suspect tho the closer we get to 1998, during which it is highly anticipated we will see Basia's next release (either a new album, or as some suspect, an announcement of retirement) you will witness a blizzard of the kind of activity for which Basia-L is deservedly famous. When did you first become interested in Basia, BTW? Retirement?! I hope this doesn't happen! > When did you first become interested in Basia, BTW? > > Phil I had heard "Time and Tide" several times when it was popular and while I liked it, it didn't make me want to run out and buy her cd. Then one of the local stations that plays other cuts off the cd's played "Astrud". I really, really liked that song and went out immediately to buy her CD. BTW, it is still my favorite. Since then, I have purchased every CD I could find by her. Saw her in concert once and it was great! One of the best concerts I've been to. She was supposed to be here a few years back, but the concert was cancelled due illness. Not a fanatical fan, but someone who enjoy's her music very much and hopes to see her in concert again! =========== "Let's Document it and call it a Feature!" ============ Richard Uchytil (rich@west.sun.com) Voice: (503) 520-7614 Sun Microsystems Fax: (503) 520-7722 Business/Systems Analyst ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 May 1997 14:29:43 -0700 (PDT) From: "Diane F. The general feeling around here is that, yes, she does/has make/made GREAT music. I feel that in the past ten years there has been no other artist to come close to Basia (and her partner Danny White) in the popular music realm when it comes to an original and totally refreshing sound. But if what she has said in recorded interviews is true, she is not in it for the long term. The demands of show biz are too much, and interfere with her personal life. Sounds negative, but actually we have had some fun with this, including the speculative notion that since she seems to generate a new album every three-four years, then by God we are due a new one in 1998 at the very latest! > > > > When did you first become interested in Basia, BTW? > > > > Phil > > I had heard "Time and Tide" several times when it was popular and while > I liked it, it didn't make me want to run out and buy her cd. Howeever, my personal favorite cut is from LWNY: Baby You're Mine. I have to wonder if, based on her avowed love of Brasilian music, she and Tom Jobim ever met. > Since then, I have purchased every CD I could find by her. Saw her in > concert once and it was great! Not a fanatical fan, but someone who enjoy's > her music very much and hopes to see her in concert again! I have seen her twice, both times in Boston: '90 and '94. In each instance there was an album to push, so I would say if there is any hint of appearances in the near future this will herald the vaunted '98 release. Unfortunately none of the New England summer music venues have so far mentioned Basia as yet. Hmmmmmm....You mention that she cancelled a performance due to health a few year back. I recall that she said, during an Arsenio Hall show, that she cancelled Pheonix because of the flu, the night before. Was that the one? Is Danny marrying a Mauritian Twin? Phil (always game) ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V2 #91 **************************
