O.K, J.S., Dennis, and the gang, please help out the cyber-feeble. I have been around alot, but I'm not familiar with IRC. I have been following the posts, but don't know what I need to participate. What is IRC, and what software/access is required to use it? Here's hoping that 1998 brings bountiful tidings of Basia's tunes. Fisli" Subject: soundbyte web info please Someone is asking me to provide a streaming audio soundbyte for his website (no, not Peter!). I have researched what to do, and come up with a few answers, but would appreciate some suggestions from the other web designers on this mailing list. :) How would I go about creating a script that would play a streaming soundbyte from a web page? What software are you using? What would you recommend? What should I stay away from? What works best in a "universal" manner (i.e., for most new browsers on the market now)? (I already have a good sound conversion software program but would appreciate some suggestions there, too!) Answer privately, please! (thanks!) Hope to chat with some of you on #basia IRC, TUESDAY! :) TTFN! --Di. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Feb 1997 17:50:14 EST From: roach2@juno.com (J.S. Bottom line: there are going to be people in the #basia room at irc.stealth.net, port 6667 tonight at 8:00EST (5pm Pacific, 1am UK). If people show up, great. If not, Dennis and I will just talk smack about all the rest of you. Toodles! JSL. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Feb 1997 18:48:54 -0600 From: Jim Clary - Dallas TX Subject: Re: IRC? Each Chat server is divided up into numerous Chat "Channels" or "Rooms" of which #basia is one. A sample Chat server is irc.stealth.net where you can find channel #basia when our group is in session. As for the software, you can download it for free from the internet. I'm new to IRC but I have been having pretty good results with Quarterdeck's GlobalChat (beta version) which I downloaded from Quarterdeck's website www.quarterdeck.com. This is a windows type application and very user-friendly. Someone else might know of better products, anyway GlobalChat is priced right ($0.00). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Feb 1997 06:42:59 +0200 (EET) From: Terhi Sinikka Keskitalo Subject: Are you IRCing? Greetings from Finland. :) I think I missed the IRC session. It's 6:30 in the morning and I'm in coma. The reason I had to wake this early is because we're going Cruising for Bruising at the Baltic Sea two days. It's a traditional student cruise.. Huge Party. Well.. If you're still there when you get this message.. drop me a line.. I forgot the name of that stealth IRC-server. ;) And if you decided the time for another IRC session, let me know. :) "No matter where, we're going there together" Terhi Terhi Sinikka Keskitalo * ketesi@kanto.cc.jyu.fi University of Jyvaskyla * Dept. of Musicology My Life Is Fire And Ice * (YJM) http://www.jyu.fi/~ketesi ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V2 #28 **************************
