To join a channel, can't you be on any server, as long as it's on the same (fill in the blank) as the channel (dal-, under-, or ef-net)? Or do you have to connect to roseburg.or.us.starlink? (It seems like I always have some sort of problem connecting, unless its to toronto.dal.net or irc.dal.net or davis.ca.us.undernet.org - perhaps someone can help me to figure that out, too...) Also, did you have a port # in mind? Perhaps we should think about something a little more accessable... and who cares if its "clean" or not - if you don't want to talk about violating the family pet then STAY OUT OF THOSE ROOMS. If someone can come up with an alternative, PLEASE DO... and for us out there with dumb IRC servers, can you PLEASE list the specific IP address and port number? Thanks. Instead of the server that had been previously mentioned (which I have been unable to connect to via FOUR separate servers using various IRC software packages), perhaps we should try something a bit more popular... Now, I NEVER use IRC, but I've found, just in the last few minutes of testing, that "irc.stealth.net" seems to be a pretty reliable and easy-to-access server. So, we can try there: irc.stealth.net, port:6667, #basia. OR, if you don't like that, there's always: igc.dal.net or irc.dal.net. Thing is, we have to set up a time and a SPECIFIC, ACCEPTED, meeting place or this just isn't going to work. Ideas? Latin music is quite popular in Europe, and Poles seem to be particularly fond of Samba. Just an FYI - There is a Samba-ish song on the Time/Tide album called "Astrud". This is apparently a reference to Astrud Gilberto, king of 60's Bossa Nova, and performer of "Girl from Ipanema" (actually I think "Astrud" is in reference to GFI). ------------------------------ Date: 27 Jan 1997 21:07:14 EST From: stcarvalho@infolink.com.br Subject: Re: Waters of March Hi people!!!, I have a question..Did you receive my reply to:Waters of March??? Well, as I've said I'm from Rio de Janeiro(Brasil), Tom Jobim's city(he's the author of the music "Waters of March") -I'm going to try to translate the english lyrics,I'm sure that the portuguese version is a "little" different from the engish, I'm not sure who made the english version(maybe Jobim & someone else)- I'm going to do some research,I'll let you know... I downloaded(is it correct???) the english version - And I simply L-O-V-E-D Basia singing it...It's so beautiful...She's great!!!Love her...(as you all...) I bought here, in Rio the album "Basia on Broadway"-the imported version...- and to my surprise a few days after I discovered that: in the "not imported version"- the brazilian version- had one more song!!!!The great "Waters of March"!!!!from Tom Jobim(who I also admire,LOVE him).I'm going to buy the "brazilian version"... I knew that Basia admired the brazilian music, and I was so Happy to see that song included in her album,I just don't understand why they didn't put the music in all Cd's...If anyone is interested in a copy of it, I'll be glad to help you...feel free to e-mail me....(Hope I can help everyone,I'll do my best...). I know that this is getting "BIG",but I'm so excited with this....And anyone wanting more information on Tom Jobim's music...let me know...There's a homepage on http://www.nortemag.com/tom, about Jobim!!!(hope it didn't change...)If I'm not wrong there's an english version....You should visit ... my e-mail is: stcarvalho@infolink.com.br Feel free to e-mail me... You know, I sat down with my copy of BOB today and checked the duration of the CD, which is 76:12. "Waters of March," according to the "Angels Blush" linear notes, is 3:57. Now, call me crazy, but add the two together and it runs over 80 minutes - I didn't think a CD could hold this much info (I thought 78 minutes was the max). Does the South American version of BOB omit a live track in place of "Waters of March," or did Sony find some way to crunch everything onto one CD? Toodles! JSL P.S. - BOB still sucks. ;) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jan 1997 23:13:46 -0500 From: BobRumsby Subject: Re: Waters of March on South American BOB > >P.S. - BOB still sucks. ;) > Please be careful with the use of my name :) :) Perhaps Sony took out all of the intros that Basia did on BoB, to squeeze in the *extra* track.
