One station, WJAZ 93.3 has a ten-zillion watt transmitter and is great if you're driving up north - however, every fifth song is Roberta Flack, Whitney Houston, or Maria Carey. The other station, WFMI 106.9 is much better - they also hosted the Peter White show out here - unfortunately, a weaker transmitter. I had to hook the stereo up to the old roof-mounted TV antenna to get a good signal. They're also the goofballs who told me that they didn't play more Basia because her earlier CDs had "bad phasing" or some garbage like that. - -Robert Loaded down with your talents; Can you still keep your balance? - Emerson, Lake & Palmer ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jan 1997 12:20:03 -0800 From: "Diane F. Anyone planning to go? (do we have anyone in the general vicinity on this list?) I will be at the Los Angeles and San Diego dates, and possibly the Fresno date as well (if I can get new tires on my car)... Phil, you going to see Peter at Scullers??? ANYONE attending any of these dates note that Peter is usually available either before or after shows to chat, autograph anything, and pose for photo ops... SO bring autograph items and plan to stick around to meet him!!! Dennis wrote: >(Yay, Doc Powell!) He is a terrific guy, too. I have had the opportunity to see him a few times at festivals from last summer, and really enjoyed his show. Great new album! While I was in Oakland with Rick Braun (working merchandise for some shows he was doing at Yoshi's) I managed to catch Doc's "Sunday Morning" video - which has a surprise guest - Kirk Whalum - in it!!! That was a nice treat!!! >[Sade] has, however, a great backup band. I understand (their name is >Sweetback) they have at least one CD out, BTW. Is Rick Braun (trumpet) on it? I know he toured with her (in her band) for a while. And I think one of Peter's friends (and former band members) Tom Tucciarone (bass) also was in her band at one time. Do you have the CD? >Incidentally, our local "smooth jazz" station plays "Just Another >Day" pretty often now, but have taken to calling it "a song by >Basia". Apologies to Peter... Oh well, at least when Basia fans call to find out where they can get the new song, they end up buying Peter's album! (and don't you know they *knew* this would happen!) :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Diane F. KYOT used to play more instrumentals but it switched a while back to start playing Phil Collins (yuck), Sting (I wish he'd take singing lessons), and once in a while a group like Boyz II Men (I'm afraid to make any comment on them). I sent them an e-mail asking to play more Basia and Brazilian guitarists; they responded that they had a show at 11:00 p.m. Sunday night playing world music. I ain't gonna stay up that late on a &%$# Sunday night after putting my little boy to bed. Anyway, that leaves KESZ here as the other Basia-playing station. If you're ever in town, tune in to FM 99.9, and maybe you'll catch "Cruising for Bruising" followed by "Me and Mrs. Jones." Wow! Talk to you all later. On Tue, 14 Jan 1997, Dennis J. Pass your exam and then go practice on the poor general public in the National Health Service. :) :) As a former national health patient as well as still holding a British Passport, can I ask where you will be practicing. BTW why do they call it practicing if you have qualified.
