Nice spotting, Jeff! :) Also nice to see that the Basia mailing list *can* go on without a discussion on Peter White, tho for a while there I was beginning to wonder! (sorry, couldn't resist!) (hee hee hee!) Happy Turkey Day to all us turkeys out there! In general, you should not notice any difference. If you experience problems, please let me know. There is one major change, however. Lately, 'hackers' have taken to subscribing individuals to thousands of mailing lists all at once, meaning that the poor victim ends up with an exploding mailbox. This new version of majordomo prevents this abuse by forcing subscribers to 'confirm' their subscription request before it becomes effective. This means that when you send in a subscription request, you will receive a response back from majordomo that looks like this: To: you@your.site.com From: Majordomo@smoe.org Subject: Confirmation for subscribe LISTNAME Reply-To: Majordomo@smoe.org -- Someone (possibly you) has requested that your email address be added to or deleted from the mailing list "LISTNAME@smoe.org". If you really want this action to be taken, please send the following commands (exactly as shown) back to "Majordomo@smoe.org": auth 123djfj383 subscribe LISTNAME Your Name If you do not want to this action taken, just ignore this message and no action will be taken. If you have any questions about the policy of the list owner, please contact "LISTNAME-approval@smoe.org". So, you will have to follow the directions in the mail to get subscribed. Note that the secret code (123djfj383 above) will be different for each person, and for each request you make. If you are maintaining a web page that has subscription information on it for this list, I would appreciate it if you would add a note about the need for confirmations to it. - -Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Nov 1996 21:53:50 +0000 From: soundman Subject: Eine Kleine Holiday Greeting... Hey everyone-- Don't know what time it is where you are, but I hope that everyone is happy, healthy, and has a pleasant holiday season. And Happy Thanksgiving to Roach, Ben, Diane, Robert, and everyone else on our little list that resides in the U.S., even if they're just following someone's tour... ;^) (And Nick... if you talk to Basia and Danny, tell them that we know this isn't a holiday in England, so we expect that they won't have lost a day of work on the new album...) (Oh, and please pass along our sincere holiday greetings to them, too!) Talk to you soon, everyone!!
