Not to be harsh, but why hang out on a list devoted to artists you don't like? I heard Basia while shopping again. This time it was PROMISES. seems like ther're always from TIME AND TIDE. Why not any of the others? I have been listening for CARAVAN OF DREAMS on our local jazz radio station, as it is. I have called the Request line (always "busy") and the Entertainment line. The recording for the NATIONAL ACTS category says "National acts WORTH MENTIONING are..." Worth montioning??? Everyone here knows that 'worth mentioning' to one may not be 'worth mentioning' to another. Where do they get this stuff? It's 104.1 kmjz in St Louis Park MN. Must be more of that Minnesota 'ICE... I did hear it once during a countdown (number 14 out of 35), but since they've never played it any other time that I've heard, I don't even know where they got that. I don't think I've EVER heard them play a Basia song, which probably goes back to that pure jazz conversation long gone. My favorites are non-categorizable (?). Manhattan Transfer, Matt Bianco (the with-Basia version), Basia... No one plays it because they don't know what to call it. C'est la gare...OOPPSSS--didn't mean to mention war... In a non-music related comment, THE VIKINGS BEAT THE PACKERS!!! They are 4-0 for the 1st time since 1975! (For those of you who do not live here, that's football americaine-the Minnesota Vikings vs state border rivals the Green Bay Packers.) WOO-HOO! Both enterprises seem to take about the same amount of time. Basia hase released since the last Star Wars feature. :) The one thing I must hand Queen B is that when she does release a new studio album, it always seems to make the wait worthwhile. It is really quite saddening to think of the next release being the last. Let's hope that she reigns as long as Ella. - ---- Don Leuty dleuty@onramp.net dleuty@aol.com 96º8'W 34º11'N ------------------------------ From: roach2@juno.com Date: Sun, 22 Sep 1996 19:54:52 EDT Subject: Re: Future Basia Albums On Sun, 22 Sep 1996 16:11:24 -0500 Steve Sjoberg writes: >J.S. Is this guy a newbie or what? All I said was that when it comes to PRODUCING AN ALBUM, they're not that good. Read the message again and you MIGHT get the point I was trying to make. Plus, its apparently what they want to do with the rest of their "careers," hence the comment I made about wanting to be a shortstop for the Orioles. In other words, its my opinion that they'd have the same luck with independent producing as I would playing shortstop on a Major League Baseball team. >I heard Basia while shopping again. This time it was PROMISES. seems >like ther're always from TIME AND TIDE. Why not any of the others? Because: A) Time and Tide was her biggest commercial success B) LWNY wasn't, and C) The Sweetest Illusion was a wasteland when it came to singles. BTW, I noticed a few weeks ago someone said something about hearing (or not hearing) muzak versions of Basia songs. In response to this: Yes, there really are muzak versions of Basia songs. I've heard muzak versions of Promises, New Day For You, and Time and Tide. Ironically, I've heard them all at the same Chinese Food restaurant (and nowhere else). Toodles! JSL.
