It seems a bit ridiculous this stuff is so difficult to obtain that you have to resort to subterfuge and bribery. LOOK OUT! Here she comes again! Why mess around with the mumbly jumbly when you have that well-oiled WHIP of yours? Of course, he may work for Sears, so make sure the spurs are atached to the tip. So what are these videos? BTW, I've been listening to COD lately, and prefer it over his last quite a bit. However, the difference between the two Petes (doing his own material and his brother's) is mind boggling. I understand (I think) the differences inherent in the genres (jazz and pop) and i find it impressive the way he can look and sound so at home backing Danny and Basia, and then move on into his chosen realm so convincingly. And this is what, his 5th or 6th solo album? THAT is pretty convincing. Phil (blahblahblah) ------------------------------ From: "Dennis J. I still don't have a good feeling about it...there's something about being from a town that lost five Super Bowls that cuts your confidence a bit. BTW, the only reason I identified myself as working in the television industry was so she wouldn't hang up the phone immediately. If you all remember, there was that brief live clip of "Time and Tide" shown before Basia appeared on the Regis and Kathie Lee Show back in November. There was obviously some sort of taping of one of the shows but the question is, how extensive was it? Was it a full blown video or just clips to be used for promos when BOB was released. If there WAS indeed a full video produced (which I doubt), the odds of Sony releasing it are probably nil, especially after BOB the CD flopped so horribly. They're NOT going to spend the money on a video that no one is going to buy - except, of course, in Japan. Which would make the going rate for a BOB live video about $100+ here in the States. Toodles! Yep... I've got a copy right here. I had to go to Sears to pay on my Discover Card and thought I'd stop by the electronics area to see if I'd have any luck catching a glimpse of Basia's video. Lucky me, as soon as I got there it started playing. Found myself a TV set, turned up the volumn and planted my butt right there. The salesman walks over - Can I help you? Me - Can I have that laser disk? Noooo (with a look like "Why would you want that?") Then I explained that I had heard that video was on there, that the promo was over at the end of the week.... what do you do with the disks then? They collect them. When I told him that that video's not been released (so I'd never seen it), he cranked the volumn up even more and said "enjoy" and left me alone. He came back a little bit later and I asked "If I buy a blank tape, can you copy it for me?" "Sure!" What a nice guy, huh? If y'all need to buy a TV, VRC, camcorder, etc... see Lito at my Sears. :-) I know the copy's not as good as a laser disk, but since we're begging, we can't be too choosy, right? And yes, of course I'll be sending it to Ben. Jacki ------------------------------ From: Philip B Hall Date: Tue, 30 Jul 1996 21:39:02 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: Sears? Yeah right... You're a Basia fan, and it hurts. Why else would I act so foolishly in public? What else could make Roach type so maniacally you can just see the spittle run down his chin? Someone should design a ribbon we could wear that would identify our shared misery. A pair of looped bibos, say, tied to an accordion, all in platinum, signifying that for every one of her albums sold there is someone out there who knows deep in their hearts that 1998 is going to be just like 1997 and 1996 and 1995......... BTW, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish that Ben (whose update to the list yesterday I deleted inadvertently) could come up with just the right words, just the precise phraseology, just the most effective Dale Carnegie way of influencing Jeff to send the goddam tapes he promised aeons ago so the goddam video project might proceed. Obviously, I have no access to that sort of persuasion, so I won't even make the attempt. Maybe someone else hereabouts, who, like me, once having heard of and desired a compilation video, and now EXPECTS to have one, might have some suggestions? Next thing we'll hear is that classes have started and there's too much to do, or, he couldn't tear himself away from the Olympics, or his Brother labelling machine broke down, or he lost Ben's address, etc, etc.... I'm glad you had more luck than I. (I'm still working on it, though.) I'll have a tall, cool one in Jacki's honor tonight. Na zdrowje. BTW, after all that, what did you think of the video. There were many dozens of venues, and from them it is inconceivable to me that the entire show is not on tape - tho you'd have to have yer own Air Force One and an unlimited Gulf Card to hop around and collect all the footage from local TV outlets that may have covered it. Come to think of it, though, probably not much more trouble then packaging all those video clips you have and sending them on to Ben. You realise, the longer you delay, the more damage to the signal on them will occur from our Earth's magnetic field, thus the archival necessity of getting them compiled on some fresh, Hi-Quality, medium before they rot, Jeff.
