Lohr" Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 01:35:35 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Christmas Comes Early...;D Howdy once again, folks. My big shipment from the UK Music Mail Order Service came today - I'll spare the gloating, but one of the CD's I received had a curious tag on it: First, the CD itself is a UK maxi-single for "Drunk on Love." Now, if you're wondering, there IS a definite difference between this CD single and the Austrian CD Single (also for "Drunk on Love") which most of you have found in a local shop and the single which I now have... the Austrian single has only three tracks and a picture of Basia in a chair, while the cover of the UK single has the "other" Halina Tymusz painting of Basia from the TSI linear notes. Confused yet? Good... Anyway, the tracks on the UK single are also different - the Austrian has only three tracks while this one has four, including the Phil's New England Gas Station Mix of "Third Time Lucky" (its rerecorded - a different version from the album version). Now, all this is pretty trivial - except for the red sticker which appears on the CD cover, which says: "...includes previously unavailable mix of DRUNK ON LOVE + THIRD TIME LUCKY, & PERFECT MOTHER as featured in the upcoming Robert Altman film PRET-A-PORTER." Now, I don't know about you guys, but I hadn't heard ANYTHING about anything from TSI being used in PRET-A-PORTER, which, if I'm not confusing it with something else, was that movie that Altman made about supermodels or something like that. I think Kim Basinger was in it, and I seem to remember reading in an old issue of SPY magazine that the film flopped horribly (which is perhaps why this little factoid has slipped under the rug for so long). Next, with the way the sticker is worded, I can't figure out WHICH song is used in the film - is it just PERFECT MOTHER or is it PERFECT MOTHER *and* THIRD TIME LUCKY or is it even all three? Of course, if the film is out on video, I'll eventually get around to renting it because God forbid we let something like this slide between the cracks - I mean, what if there was some alternate version of PERFECT MOTHER on the film soundtrack!?!? Obviously we'd ALL have to run right down to our local CD shop and snatch a copy right up. ;D Just figured I'd keep you all posted. And like I said before, I'll spare you all from my gloating over ALL THE OTHER COOL CDs I GOT!!! :D j/k Take it easy, folks. It's been out on video for quite a while...I rented it a couple of months ago but don't remember any Basia on it. And you're right about the reason why, too. Given that it was directed by Robert Altman, I was stunned at how bad it was. "The silly thing about karate is that it makes the ridiculous assumption that the other guy will fight fair." Funny, it played for a while here; maybe it did better in Arizona than the rest of the country. Will wonders ever cease!
