After struggling and struggling with the tech support people, they sent me a new one which also did not work. I was impatiently awaiting a check so I could go out and buy a RELIABLE modem, and the check arrived Tuesday... SO... Here I am, with 52 or so backlogged e-mails to go through... Just caught this and thought I'd respond... I think before my modem died I might have popped up to say that it looks like the PW/Basia tune will happen... Haven't heard definitely yet... Don't buy a Cardinal modem... USRobotics, that's the one to buy... Glad to be back... - --Di. ------------------------------ From: "Diane F. (HA!) told me that they *do* read their mail, try to write, you never know, maybe Ms. T. or Danny White will answer! If you'd like to write to *Peter* White, try him at P.O. Box 15906, North Hollywood CA, 91615. He tries to respond to all notes he receives, so it's much more likely you'll get some kind of reply! :) (Phil)>See, the original posting had it _Spike Jones_, which is different. I am >sure I am the only one here who recalls him at all. Not true. Somewhere in my collection of weird records I have a 78 (before my time, really, it was my PARENT's record) of Spike Jones doing "Der Fuhrer's Face" - a trite but funny slam on the Nazis and their salute to Adolf Hitler... Now *Jonze*, well... I am not much in the mainstream of things, locked in my little apartment in the middle of Lost Angeles without any benefit of cable TV (gasp!), but I DID see that "Buddy Holly" vid... It's just another case of sampling, to my mind... Only instead of sound, it's video... Sure, it's artfully done, I saw the vid as "cute", and all that, but a *GOD*??? Well. Orson Wells, Stanley Kubrick, or Francois Truffaut he ain't... They're not gods either, but I'll watch their movies time and again... That Jonze vid? Once was fine... Maybe I just need to see some other stuff he's done, but from what I've read here, more than likely just once will probably do... Then again, this is coming from someone who freely admits she honestly appreciates such (stupid) comedy classics as the very obscure Sylvester Stallone movie "Oscar"... Let's face it, I do enjoy a good worn-out old joke from time to time! (heh!) Wakka-Wakka! - --Di. oh, and btw, JSL wrote: >VH-1 sucks. Plain and simple.< Sad how it's fallen. Danny White, for some unknown reason, seems to like to appear as a "mystery man"... Peter says it's because he's not comfortable with doing the "PR thing", such as appearing at an autograph session, etc... He just wants to do the music and go home and live a normal life without being a "star"... Actually Danny is very nice, even tho he appears to be morose most of the time he can smile and laugh and all that stuff... He's just "deep"... It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for! ;-) > >Ooops. I'll begin to worry when I *don't* have to explain who Peter is, to most people... She's still a great singer, OK! > These are really funny!!! Peter White once had an Al Stewart tune he co-penned attributed to Al Stewart and Peter *Green*... Ah, obscurity... Hey I believe that this "lite jazz" or NAC (new adult contemporary) format stuff is actually becoming the new MOR (middle of the road)... Time or Newsweek or someone like that did a HUGE story (so huge I missed it entirely, but this is what I hear) about it some weeks back... Us baby-boomers have money, like this stuff, and are buying it! What a concept! >> Ooops. Is Peter White someone real (i.e. a somewhat popular musician) or did >> that just pop into my head? > >Man, I do NOT want to be around when Diane gets that message... ;) > >JSL. Don't worry, Jeff @ Rust I'll let ya live... ;-) Actually, if you'd give Peter White's stuff half a chance, it's really pretty good. (my biased opinion, naturally, but there ya have it!) Peter's newest album will be out hopefully within a month or so (and might even include a cut with Basia singing on it)(keep thinking good thoughts, guys!), but in the interim, try "Promenade" for PW-penned tunes, or "Reflections" for covers you will recognize... Or if you like Al ("Year Of The Cat") Stewart, check out his "Rhymes In Rooms" cd for an acoustic duo live set with PW... And yep, PW's a darned busy musician, he's on a *LOT* of albums because he likes to work with (and learn from) a lot of different people... All in a day's work! So no one has come close to getting it yet... I'll bet hard currency that it hasn't been released yet - I can't imagine the import dealers would be having such a problem with a "new release" unless it hasn't been released yet.
