OK, something for the FAQ! Basia's vocals are missing on the CD
versions of _Whose Side Are You On?_ and _MB Greatest Hits_ from the
song "More Than I Can Bear". That song, with Basia's vocal track, is
on both the US cassette for _WSAYO?_ and the US cassette for _Matt
Bianco_.
The song "WSAYO?" has her vocals in every version of which I know.

Subject: DID
I'm going to have to cogitate about a DID list... I tend to shy away from
these because I probably have nearly 500 CD's. (I used to manage a record
store and got them at a discount or freebie). One disk per artist, hm...
That makes it tough.
Okay, I'll wing it (in no particular order):
Peter White - Collection (it's a Singapore GH compilation)
Aerosmith - Big Ones
Neil Diamond - (with about 25 albums, a very tough decision) Hot August Night
Rick Braun - Beat Street
Dave Camp - Torrid Rain
Basia - urrrrgh... Ummmmm, BOB
Johnny Clegg & Savuka - Cruel Crazy Beautiful World
Enya - Shepherd Moons
Annie Lennox - Diva
Chieftains - Boil The Breakfast Early
Darnit, you guys, I had to go take a look at my CD's for a title, and came up
with several more that should *not* be excluded from this list... Heck, I've
already culled my sax player collection to one... Hmmm...
How about being stranded on this island with all these performers & their
bands??? (agony, agony!!!) (heh!)
Honorable mention: Boney James, David Sanborn, Stan Rogers, Oingo Boingo,
Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Aretha Franklin, Al Stewart,
numerous soundtracks, James Brown, Candy Dulfer, Jimmy Buffett, John
Hartford, Tchaikovsky, numerous compilations, Quincy Jones (anybody heard
"Q's Juke Joint"? It's EXCELLENT!) George Gershwin, Elton John, The Beatles,
The Beach Boys, Craig Chaquico, Cracker, Green Day, Rolling Stones,
Santana...
Enough of that... Suffice it to say I have a very weird album collection!

Subject: Peter & Basia
Well, I've been helping Peter White with his album liner notes (I am one of
the few who can decipher his scribbling!), and can tell you this much:
Tentative title is "Caravan of Dreams".
Basia *is* on one cut, but the jury is still out as to the politics and
legalities of having this included on the album (record labels, even tho
Columbia and Epic are both under Sony, there are still conflicts to iron
out!)... Hope it ends up being okay, since I was in the studio yesterday
with PW and his producer Paul Brown (who also did PW's "Reflections") as they
were putting finishing touches on the mix &tc, and the cut with Basia is
absolutely beautiful! I was in the midst of telling Peter something and the
sound wafted through the (closed) door of the studio and I just stopped
*DEAD* and had to listen... Peter encouraged me to go into the booth and
listen, so I did... It left me breathless...
I wish I could tell you more, but I probably should keep the rest under
wraps... That was the most important thing to *this* list, anyhow... :)
Peter is headed to England tomorrow, for a two week "working" holiday. He's
visiting family & friends, and also doing (ostensibly) some work for Basia &
Danny on their new album... Since he says nothing seems to be written at
this point, it's debatable whether he'll actually do this work... But things
could change.
I'm unclear on something... Matt Bianco, WSAYO. I have the American tape.
Which CD version is the best for Basia's vocals? I have been meaning to get
the CD, and have hesitated because I'm just not sure which version I'd get
(and I have a bit of trouble plunking down $20. for an unknown import).
Any info would be appreciated!

So much for my info on the above.....
Oh well...

NONE!!! All the CDs out there do NOT have Basia's vocals on "More Than I
Can Bear".
Sad but true...

You bet. Thanks for the news!

This must be Fagan's attempt to copyright what I would consider
standard studio procedure - re-recording and mixing, finding the precise
sound, remixing, etc, etc, etc.
At any rate, when I first listened to Kamakiriad, I looked for Steve
Cropper's name in the credits as producer. I was convinced Don was
attempting to put a new slant on the Booker T sound. It was (and still
is) a collection of catchy tunes, but lacking the watershed feeling I
gained from Nightfly (which to me is the Sgt. Pepper's of Fagan's output).
Both are autobiographical (somehow his Florida connection runs deep) and
introspective but uptempo, which aspect sets him well apart from the crowd.
But to link this thread with our present list, I wonder if there is a
term for the musical device Basia/White used in 'Drunk On Love', and Don
uses in 'Tommorrow's Girls': in both the song builds on its stanzas and
utilizes a refrain, but after a while there is this departure into an
elevated new groove that REALLY knocks me out. Not much of that kind of
writing/arranging these days to suit me.

Are you sure? For some reason, all I ever see is the French version. I
have always had hopes that the Japanese version (which is probably as
easy to find as, say, the Holy Grail) still has the intact version.
Atlantic needs to get on the ball and reissue the damn thing.

Di,
Perhaps you shouldn't have told us that - if the deal does fizzle through
and the track goes unreleased, we'll just end up hating you that much
more. :D Raving about it doesn't help matters much, either.
Looks like "Water of March" died a pretty quick death...
