I mean, who else didn't play on it? What the hell is this album gonna sound like? Is it just going to be stripped down versions of Jobim's songs, done by Basia and, like, some percussionist with a pair of mambos?!? Might it be a BLESSING that this album isn't going to be released here? And I don't mean to question Ken's information, but do you REALLY think Basia and Danny could record TEN tracks in a year's time, even if they WERE remakes? PLUS taking the time to write and record "Angels Blush" and WHO knows what else. When I think about it, I can't imagine them doing anything more than, say, six tracks in the alotted period of time between the end of the Sweetest Illusion tour and the beginning of the mini-promotional tour for BOB (because anything after that would probably have to be post production work if it was, indeed, a full blown album). And wasn't most of Basia's backup band off touring with Incognito during this period of time? Perhaps Mr. Anthony was being a little overzealous... So, even though this album is supposed to be "full-blown," might it only have 5-7 tracks? Frankly, the record company can call that whatever the hell they want... in my book, that's an EP. Especially with the short amount of time alotted to complete this thing - I still have a suspicion that it might be an EP. And I hope you all realize, of course, that its these little things like BOB and WOM that are going to push the "next" album back until 1998. Granted, these are a little more passifying than, say, "Brave New Hope" was during the first four-year-gap. But... Toodles! I'm sure that WOM will have the same high quality and dedication to high fidelity that we have heard in recent Basia CD's... such as, for example, the Half-A-Minute remixes..... ;-) William ------------------------------ From: juan paxety Date: Sun, 7 Apr 1996 00:52:26 GMT Subject: Re: Peter Bianco >>anything about it (in the official sense), and c) Peter White didn't play >on it. Mambo is a dance form invented, more or less, by the Lopez brothers in Cuba back in the 30s. Israel Lopez, known as Cacho, has made something of a comeback over the past few years by recording for the Estefan's studio in Miami. He played on some of the cuts on Gloria's Mi Tierra album. Jobim wrote something much different. The main reason that this could be a full album is that BASIA DID NOT HAVE TO WRITE ANYTHING. Gene Leeds wrote English versions of Jobim's songs decades ago. Danny, the workaholic, could write the arrangements in the almost two years since Jobim died. Then all he had to do is hand the words to our favorite singer. Besides, Basia has obviously sung this stuff for years. I'm still hoping for a full album - and if that's not what we get, we know who lured us into this.:D un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ From: "Dennis J. That's how Peter got out of his Sin-Drome contract, he didn't hear from them (they forgot, much to their dismay and to his delight!) so *they* broke the contract and it left him free to sign with another label. I thought seven was mighty nice number to hear... :) And re: WOM: >> If Peter White didn't play on it, WHO DID? Just how low budget is >>this album going to be? >> Okay... I managed to worm a few more details out of him this morning, he said it's not a full Basia album, it's a compilation of many artists including Basia. He said Danny & Basia and the full band worked very hard on the cut they did... And I think Peter *is* on the cut, but he did the recording "long distance" (via tape)... Understand, of course, that Peter is a lonnnnnnng way away from London or Biggin Hill in living in North Hollywood CA... Even tho he gets back to England when he can, he doesn't have much "regular" contact with whatever goes on there... Most of the time he has no idea what's happening with Danny or Basia simply because of time and career constraints... When he's on tour, he's *really* out of the loop... Peter *did* say that since Basia *is* a Sony artist too, he hopes the label doesn't see a conflict of interest by having her on his album... He very much wants to include the piece with her, for fairly obvious reasons... Not to mention the fact that there are some *rabid* Basia fans somewhere out here in cyberspace (any idea where???) (hee!) who would practically do **anything** for some new Basia material... :) I haven't heard much of Peter's new album except a few snippets, and I know of one piece that he is doing on tour with the Guitars & Saxes & More bunch that will make it onto the album, the piece he and Marc Antoine wrote together... Peter's also setting his sights on a Grammy for the: (PW direct quote, by the way) "Best New Music Artist Who Recorded The Whole Album In His Garage"... Honest and for true! :) I've often thought it was really funny for him to include his dog Chibi barking in the background on his first album... I'm working hard on getting Peter's website up and running... We'll be at "peterwhite.com", but just not quite sure yet which server we will be using, so we are not 'anchored' yet... Scanning in photos at the moment, anybody got any they'd like to contribute? Say... Anybody out there good at Perl? I need a couple of scripts for the site -- a counter, and an automatic update notice, plus a mailing list (like this one). E- me privately, this doesn't have to be discussed on this list! THANKS! If its a compilation then why is it only listed under Basia alone?! Damn - $40 for ONE @#$%ING SONG. Excuse me while I go shoot myself in the head. Ha, one song. One monkey spunkin song. Somebody tell me why, oh why are there so many compilation CD's of Brazilian music!? I just bought one such compilation today at a Virgin Megastore. It's called "blue note plays Jobim." Track 2 is a rather unremarkable instrumental called "Waters of March." No, really. I also saw about half a dozen other compilation CD's. Every single one of them had the same core of 6-8 songs, plus 3-4 "unusual" tracks thrown in. > Ho, wait a minute...are you saying what I think you're saying!?!?! One > track!?!? ONE @#$%ING TRACK!?!?!?! ALL THIS CRAP HAS BEEN OVER _ONE_ > SONG!?!?!?!?!?!? Hey, you're forgetting the inevitable remixes of that one song. Basia could probably release an entire album based on that one song. Think about it: Track List: 1. Water Of March 2. Water Of March (live) 3. Water Of March (band) 4. Water Of March (12" mix) 5. Water Of March (extended play) 6. Water Of March (in Polish) 7. BONUS TRACK: Half A Minute (remix)* * Never before released in the U.S.! > Excuse me while I go shoot myself in the head. Water of March (in Polish) (whoa, maybe THAT'S Dzien Sie Budzi!!! :D) 6. Water of March (12" Underwater Mix) 7. Water of March (Japanese Radio Edit) 8. Water of March (John's Psycho Typewriter MAMBO Mix) :D There - there's your bloody full album. Ungh... BTW, this had better not turn out to be some sort of sick, twisted, late April Fool's joke. At least I don't have to protest it anymore... and I guess it wasn't Basia I heard on the radio... or maybe it was. All I know now is that there's no longer anything to be so pressed over, which is nice. > > Excuse me while I go shoot myself in the head. > > Need some company? Get in line, buddy. Gosh, I wonder how many cancelled credit card orders CD Banzai will be receiving tomorrow. Like I've said before, I sent 'em a money order - I'm stuck with this thing. Water of bloody friggin March - what a sham! Welp, there's always 1998!!!! Roach. ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V1 #83 **************************
