Ok...keeping things going here...(and to take my mind off of this WATER OF MARCH junk) - Since there's been a little talk about the '94 show (well, not really talk - just me rambling on about the psychopaths and our really primo seats) recently, I took a moment to whip out the program from the show and thumbed through it for the first time in awhile. (for those of you playing along at home, you may want to whip yours out, too) Anyway...I never really paid much attention to the biographies until now. The point of all this? Basia likes some REALLY WEIRD (and bad) films. Sure, there's the mainstream American stuff like "The Fisher King" and "The King Of Comedy" (both of which rank pretty respectably on my own Top 50). But then there's the weird stuff...like Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Dekalog." Don't get me wrong - I like a lot of Kieslowski's work (especially the recent stuff, like "White" (Julie Delpy rocks my world!)) and his recent passing was a real tragedy - but "Dekalog?!?" For those who don't know what it is, its a collection of 10, one hour long, films, each dealing with one of the Ten Commandments in a modern setting. I mean, on paper it sounds artistically cool - but its a 10-hour long film! Hell, the entire Star Wars saga is roughly only 6 hours long... Then, there's the one I had a real problem with: "Betty Blue." An ex-girlfriend of mine once made me watch this movie... if you've never seen it, take the plunge - any good Blockbuster will have it (in the foreign film section). I hate this movie so much that I kinda like it. Between the repeated full frontal nude shots of Jean-Hugues Anglade (Generation X cronies and Quentin Tarantino loyalists know him better as "Eric" from KILLING ZOE) and the scenes of this poor girl ("Betty") putting her hand through plate glass windows and beating the crap out of people for almost no reason, it makes the film quite a stomach-churner. Granted, through all this perversion comes a touching love story, but... All in all, the girl likes some strange stuff. And has anyone read any of the books by any of those authors she mentioned on the "Most Influential Books" part? I'm not a big reader, but I'm curious if her choice of literature is as weird as her film selections. Oh, and for some reason, I found it hilarious that Peter White's favorite film was "Repo Man." Such a fine, upstanding musician and his favorite movie is about a stolen car that has a dead alien in the trunk which vaporizes anyone unfortunate enough to lay eyes on it. :D Just my $.02 worth... Well, it really isn't designed to be seen in one sitting. It was a series of films, originally shown on Polish television. Each sement stands alone, except for some common elements that bind them together (characters from one seen in the background of another, for example) Two of the hour long films were later redone as two-hour films for commercial release. Think of it like something Roots or the Warbirds as a favorite film. > Then, there's the one I had a real problem with: "Betty Blue." I agree that Betty Blue was a very odd film. Now, did you hear that Basia's new EP will actually be called Marches of Water and be composed of John Phillip Sousa songs about the navy? :) - -- Benjamin L. But only in Poland, correct? A psycho film friend of mine has lot of problems finding Kieslowski's lesser known work (ie everything except "Blue," "White," and "Red," and maybe "The Double Life of Veronique" (that is what its called, isn't it?)). > Think of it like something Roots or the Warbirds as a favorite film. ^^^^^^^^ Do you mean "The Thorn Birds?" Or maybe "Winds of War?" Or a subtle combination of the two? (like that beer commerical) :D Or I could be totally wrong... > > Then, there's the one I had a real problem with: "Betty Blue." Those kooky French, eh? :D > Now, did you hear that Basia's new EP will actually be called Marches of > Water and be composed of John Phillip Sousa songs about the navy? :) How about "Rancid Water of March" - a collection of ballads dealing with a toxic waste dump in a city called March, New Jersey. BTW, let's not sugar-coat things here: Water of March AIN'T an EP - its the forth studio album. Unless its only got like 5 songs on it (which, telling from Ken's original post, it doesn't), any way you cut it, its the forth album. And also, if this thing's supposed to be such a sentimental release (especially for the fans in South America), why are we all getting Japanese versions of it? Perhaps because its just easier for the dealers to get this stuff from Japan, but reguardless of all that... I smell a rat. But CD Banzai hasn't come through yet... Toodles!
