Lohr" Date: Mon, 22 Jan 1996 02:45:29 -0500 (EST) Subject: "Half a Minute" Snafu Welp, its now about 3am here on the east coast...my little endeavour to try to find the mysterious Ben's Phone Mix of "Half a Minute" turned out to be a bust...all the Tower Records, Best Buys, and Blockbuster Music stores turned out to be as worthless as they always are...mind you, I didn't go scouring every record store in the state; it was just some idiot friends and myself making a day out of looking for this blasted single. It wasn't a total waste: I did track down what is probably the only copy of Matt Bianco's "Samba in Your Casa" within a 400 mile radius. Quite enticing, but I passed...yes, I know I had to give up that rad picture of Mark Reilly on the back of the CD in full mack-daddy mode, complete with sweaty pecs and ripped shirt. But what can I say? We all have to make sacrifices. :) Derek - please please PLEASE find out what the serial number is off the single. If its domestic, that's one thing, because as long as its not a promo it'll eventually turn up somewhere. But if its foreign then I won't hold my breath in finding it...the import shops in this area aren't exactly what they used to be. The half-hour show is syndicated, so everyone should check their local listings. (For those of you in the NYC area, the show airs at 1:35 A.M. on Channel 2.) This is a surprise, but I wonder why its so late (unless Sony is doing a second try at promoting BOB)...might it be a rerun? Of course, for those of you who've never seen this show before, its sorta hoakey...if I remember correctly, they have a mirror set up behind the guest so you can watch Lauren Hutton throughout the entire interview. Its very pro-Lauren...I mean, for pete's sake, the name of the show is "Lauren Hutton AND..." And she's ALMOST as bad an interviewer as Tom Snyder is, but that's another topic for another list.... But a nice surprise, nonetheless. Bravo, Tom! Good eyes! Where are those Pittsburg people?!? Back when we (Agitprop) used to be serviced by them (via the Beltsville office location here in Maryland - and its not like they ever really did that much for us) I found that the best policy was to always lie your butt off. Zara, the woman who USED to be the college publication representative, would always ask these typical Sony "Greed is good" questions like, "now how many issues do you circulate per month?" Our response: "Duh, 20,000?" In truth, it was 3,000, and even THEN that number was still pushing it. And I'd always lie about the quality and this and that and so on, still we at least had some sort of legitimate beef with them to do things like call publicists, but its not like we ever tried. Once Zara left, Sony stopped sending us what little they did. I believe the dude's name is (or at least, was) Mike Piranian (basia's publicist). But that was a long time ago... Polygram's always been our best friend. Too bad, really. Good luck John! You'll need it :) ------------------------------ From: "J.S. I hope she stressed the last part of that sentence, ie "which will be available," because I know that Ben, Dennis, myself, and maybe some of the silent lurkers out there aren't hearing things. Granted, its probably going to live in promo-dom obscurity but IT HAS TO EXIST NONETHELESS. I mean, really...Derek's got the promo to prove it! ------------------------------ From: "J.S. I didn't say I was never going to buy it, its just that I've been to most of the import CD shops in the area and its the first copy I've ever seen; frankly, I think its nice to know that there's a Blockbuster Music in my area where I can pick this stuff up...usually its the little independent guys who have stuff like this but recently I've been finding the better selections with the big boys (Best Buy, Blockbuster - as much as I hate to admit it). Peaceful Basiaheads?
