Lohr" Date: Tue, 16 Jan 1996 21:34:50 -0500 (EST) Subject: Vinyl (I don't BELIEVE this) So I went out today and I, um, well, I...I bought a new turntable (what with all the vinyl I've been buying recently)...along with this, I had to well, um, buy a $99 needle. WHAT! The purpose of this message? Well, um, I...I guess vinyl isn't so bad after all. Matter of fact, it sounds quite good. For the first time ever, I had a chance to sit down with my 12" version of "Drunk On Love" only to discover I had a whole 40 some minutes of pretty ok dance music. Granted, the Basia stuff is minimal because this "Roger" guy took the song and butchered the hell out of it...I mean, two of the four tracks on the EP are longer than nine minutes, so, we're talking about massively drawn out, anthem-esque versions of a four minute song. Plus, that Blue Rondo a la Turk single is starting to grow on me...the instrumental stuff is quite good - these guys (even Mark Reilly!) weren't so bad after all. Wish I could find the damn album, though, and not just a handful of singles. So, you vinyl people were, well, um, sorta right. I'll leave it at that.
