I really don't know much about the distribution side of the equation, but a few questions come to mind. Is there an email or snail address that we could mail inquiries to at Sony? Do you think that if we encouraged our friends to do the same, that we could demonstrate sufficient interest to encourage US marketing of the cd? I'm so proud of myself that I recognized Peter White even though I don't have his latest album. Then I heard Basia. It was "Just Another Day," from PW's Caravan of Dreams. What a nice way to begin the day. . . . Hope everyone in the Basia orbit has a wonderful Christmas. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Dec 1996 14:37:24 EST From: roach2@juno.com (J.S. Uh, no. Huh-uh. No chance in hell. Try if you like but I'll bet a zillion bucks that you'll just end up frustrating yourself. We are at Sony's mercy. If she had a following here in the States like the one she has in Japan, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Plain and simple. I'm convinced that BOB really set us back in the dark ages where the record company is concerned. They're not going to waste anymore money on any novelty Basia releases in the US anytime soon. And can you blame them? BUT, don't give up all hope yet! Remember that posting a few weeks back where someone said they heard on the radio that Basia was supposed to have a "new" album out "next month?" Well, there's always a one in a million chance that that "new" album is actually an American EP of some sort, ala "Brave New Hope." Although, if it were an "Angels Blush" type deal, I would've thought they'd get it out to the public before Christmas (and the way this person sounded, I believe they were referring to a release date sometime in January, 1997). PLUS, there's always a chance that any one of these songs will end up as a side B to future singles. I mean, they've got at least 6 unreleased tracks to play around with when it comes time to make the singles for "Basia 1998." Remember, there's always: 1. Half a Minute (Alka Seltzer Mix) - only released commercially in Europe (was only a promo in the US) 2. Third Time Lucky (new European re-recorded version) - only released commercially in Europe 3. Angels Blush - only released commercially in Japan (was only a promo in the US) 4. Water of March - as far as I can tell, was only released commercially in South America and Japan 5. More Fire Than Flame (live) (a likely candidate) - only released commercially in Japan 6. An Olive Tree (live) (another likely candidate) - only released commercially in Japan Look at that - right there, BOOM, you've got the Best Remixes, Vol. III. Nice little EP package right in front of you. >Does anyone have a "Japanese Connection" who would take orders and >ship them to the states? Not to ruffle any feathers, but according to this list roster (provided by the Majordomo software), there are a number of Japanese fans subscribed to this list. They just aren't saying anything (heh, can you blame them?). Toodles! I've heard this a couple of times now, and it is not the same version that is on the U.S. TSI release. It is a much simpler version of the song, in terms of the musical instruments that are used. Also, is there ANY chance that the album "Bronze" (title same as group) is a re-mastering of a demo tape made by Basia/Danny in the 1980's? This album is listed on CD Banzai when you search for "bronze", and was only released in Japan. I tried to get further information, but CD Banzai said that they don't stock any imports, that they are all ordered when they are purchased, and that they therefore cannot provide any further info on an import album other than what's listed. Anyone know about this CD? - -- Bob (wondering what is going on) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Dec 1996 19:49:38 EST From: roach2@juno.com (J.S. Does ANYONE read ANYTHING I post AT ALL? Robert, go to my homepage: http://users.aol.com/basiapage/basia.htm Go to the "sounds" section. Download the clip of the "Third Time Lucky" (Phil's Gas Station Mix) that is there. Listen to it. That should answer your query. That version of TTL was only released in Europe (on a CD single). >Also, is there ANY chance that the album "Bronze" (title same as >group) is a re-mastering of a demo tape made by Basia/Danny in the 1980's? Here is what I assume Bob is referring to: Artist: Bronze Album Title: Bronze Media CD Label:Release Number CS:CSCS5379 Country JAPAN Condition NEW (not used) Price $35.98 >This album is listed on CD Banzai when you search for "bronze", and >was only released in Japan. I tried to get further information, but CD >Banzai said that they don't stock any imports, that they are all >ordered when they are purchased, and that they therefore cannot provide any >further info on an import album other than what's listed. CD Banzai is almost as useless as Sony Music. >Anyone know about this CD? I've just checked all my other online sources and no one else has that item available. Now, Bronze never recorded anything official because they were never able to land a record contract. Danny eventually left to first be in Squeeze and then in Blue Rondo a la Turk, and when Blue Rondo split he teamed up with Mark Reilly and Kito Poncioni and the rest is history. But, like Bob said, this could be remastered demos. Is it remastered demos? I don't think so. It would be super cool if it were - Basia, Danny White, the Ross brothers, Warne Livesey... all before any of them did anything else at all. The Bronze sessions would've been during 1981... we're talking about some stellar stuff here. Probably the first English recording Basia had ever done, not to mention hearing some raw Danny White material a year before Matt Bianco was even thought of. If it by some act of God were the original Bronze sessions, well, it'd be worth the $35. I really don't think it is, though, simply because the band never landed a contract - and who would care about demos? Maybe some smart Basia fans, and perhaps some fans of whatever band the Ross brothers are in (the Immaculate Fools rings a bell). I doubt anyone would stop you from ordering it though, Bob. While you're at it, why don't you pick up those Alibabki and Perfect CDs from that online Polish CD shop. ;) Toodles! I had the chance to listen to the clip from "Angels Blush" from Roach's home page (just took another listen to it now), and she certainly does show a lot of the Christmas spirit. I'll probably be a person who will be happy if and when a Basia Christmas album gets produced. (and it probably will be a big if!) I hope to find at least a short clip of "Waters of March" sometime in the near future. May all of you find much happiness and joy this holiday season, and may 1997 be a wonderous year for everyone.
