Can you tell me? As far as your question about the superiority of the Sony re-issue of "Time and Tide" versus the original, I think that I can hear sounds on the re-issue that I cannot pickup on the original. I usually use an old pair of Radio Shack headphones that can, for some reason, pick up an amazing array of sounds that are never heard using normal room speakers. Using these, some of the songs seem to have more pronounced background sound than the original re-mastering does, especially "Miles Away". Of course, this could all be in my head. Also, Sony was a little sloppy in the spacing between the songs, some have no "silent" space at all, some have more than enough. And, in my opinion, they "polluted" the album by putting the "Forgive and Forget" song on the album at the end (which was not on the=20 original version). This song was on the Brave New Hope EP, so they must have thought that they could increase sales somewhat by adding it to the T&T re-issue (and they're probably right). As far as pure sound quality, I believe that it is indeed better than the original, but it's probably only noticable if you have high-quality equipment to listen to it with. Hopefully, as digital sound technology continues to improve, we won't be subject to a "new" re-issue every time a breakthrough happens. - -- Bob ------------------------------ From: roach2@juno.com (J.S. Yes, you read that right - THREE TRACK. As to what the other two tracks are going to be, I have no idea. I seriously doubt they're going to be alternate versions of "Angels Blush," so it looks like the Japanese fans are going to get something fairly cool in their Christmas stockings. Now, it could be nothing more than, say, those horrible remakes of "Half a Minute" (since, apparently, the Japanese fans never got those tracks, be it on a promo or CD single - American and European fans can at least relish in the fact that we were the only ones who got to hear the atrocious "Go Fizz" remixes). But, they could also be the leftovers from whatever "Water of March" was supposed to be. Or, they could just be "Drunk on Love" and "Perfect Mother" and I could be overreacting. Actually, I guess since the Japanese also never got "Angels Blush" the last time around, this is only fair. Toodles! JSL. ------------------------------ From: roach2@juno.com (J.S. Actually, it was in Europe and Japan. Plus, I'm pretty sure the Japanese got "Give Me That" on their versions of T&T as well. I think some European versions have "GMT" as well, but I've never been able to confirm this 100%. >This song was on the Brave >New Hope EP, so they must have thought that they could increase >sales somewhat by adding it to the T&T re-issue (and they're probably >right). Well, they had to give the U.S. fans SOME reason to buy the album. I mean, who's gonna fork out $25+ for a CD that they ALREADY HAVE, even if the sound quality is supposed to be a bit better. The same was true for "Brave New Hope" - very few people are going to buy an album of nothing but remixes, so they have to sugar-coat it with songs the typical fan might not've heard (even though those songs were readily available as Side B's on singles from T&T). And remember, those two tracks didn't appear on the original CD5 version of "Brave New Hope." It was the amazing sales of that CD5 which led to Sony rereleasing it as an EP. Those were the good ol' days. >As far as pure sound quality, I believe that it is indeed better than >the original, but it's probably only noticable if you have high-quality >equipment to listen to it with. Hopefully, as digital sound >technology continues to improve, we won't be subject to a >"new" re-issue every time a breakthrough happens. Actually, I don't think its just the remastering that makes that CD or any Basia CD sound better... for example, for some reason, I've noticed that alot of the CD Singles and promos I've gotten from Europe sound NOTICEABLY better than any of the American versions. I know some of you will back me up on this because I know what your reactions have been to some of the CDs I've sold you. Perhaps its just the luck of the draw. I mean, I KNOW remastering can make a CD recording sound "better" in certain ways, but you can only take the original recording so far. Now I'm waiting for Vince Mora to start yelling at me about some sort of technical aspect of CD production that I'm overlooking. ;) Vince, you still there? ;) Toodles! We could all send our money to "someone" (Roach, Ben, or I'll even volunteer if I need to) and then that person would send the money to the guy in Japan. He'd send the CD's back to that person and then they'd mail them out to everybody else. I'd also like to do that for the Christmas release of Angels Blush, since I've never heard it.
