I've been trying to figure out the distinction between that and >the light jazz stuff that I've been listening to for lo these many >years. Ummm... Good question... It's kinda like a rose is a rose is a rose... Some would argue that the "light jazz" we listen to these days is *not* jazz at all (someone like *me*, for instance)... Peter White can't put a label on his music, he always tells people that's not his job... Frankly I've always thought that Basia was a *terrific* jazz vocalist... BUT... Pop music and pop radio prevailed for the first part of her career as a solo performer... Now she's back at jazz... I have a hard time with the "acid jazz" label... For me, it seems that acid jazz should be in there with fusion... but it's a whole 'nother animal... What is "pure" jazz? Big bands? Benny Goodman? Glenn Miller? The Andrew Sisters? Or is it Al Jolson? Or is it David Sanborn? Earl Klugh? Miles Davis? Kenny G? Rosemary Clooney? Basia? Herb Alpert? Sade? Peter White??? (had to get a plug in there somehow!) (heh!) Anita Baker? Aretha Franklin??? Soul II Soul? Suzanne Ciani? Well, you get the picture... Why put a label on it, if you like it, listen to it, and don't fret... Hopefully your favorites will continue to produce great music, and all will be well with the world (especially in Slovenia!) (HA!). I realize that doesn't answer your question, Dennis, it only raises more questions... There is a very interesting flight museum in the upper deck of the main terminal building at the Frankfurt Flughaven (airport). A couple of your six-hour layover could easily be spent viewing the exhibits. There are engine cut-outs of piston and turbine engines, as well as, many old aircraft hangin from the ceiling. The space exhibit is very well done, also. Hope you enjoy you brief stop in Frankfurt a/M. Be sure to sample the local bier(beer). :) > 1) to DON LEUTY: > Sorry, I can't help you with the lyrics. Acid Jazz as far as I can gather is a marketing ploy covering a diversity of styles but mostly influenced by 70s jazz funk(as in Hebie Hancock)that became a sort of scene in the late eighties as a reaction to the automatons of house music ('Real jazz' is percieved almost as an alternative art music and therefore unsellable) . This is almost analogous to Matt Bianco and other jazz pop bands of the mid eighties came about almost as a reaction to the bland synthesised pop of the period. BTW it might be worth listening to Incognito's "Tribes, Vibes and Scribes" as it virtually comprises Basia TSI band minus Messrs White and Ms Trzetrzelewska. "Snowboy" who played on LWNY has his own band which is marketed as Acid Jazz. There you are, no references to tiny central european countries and some Basia relevance.
