Thanks for your attention. I think that I am the only Brazilian fan at this list... (?) Well, let me say about my Basia's collection. I have this CDs (with my Gerson's personal rating (GPR): Time and Tide (but with a different photo in front, I think that is special to Brazil, like explane the "J.S. Lohr's Basia Discography") GPR: EXCELENT London Warsaw New York GPR: EXCELENT The Sweetest Ilusion GPR: EXCELENT Basia on Broadway GPR: MORE THAN EXCELENT And I have one video: Time and Tide GPR: WONDERFUL! When I read the Lohr's discography I think that I have anything about Basia, but in the next sunday, Sep15, I am going to Europe, more exactly Slovenya to work and I will TRY to complete my personal collection. I am thinking in do my personal Basia's page. First I need to check my disc space at my server, but I think that I will have no problems. Then there all you can see the different Basia's picture from Time and Tide. Here in Sao Paulo only one radio plays her songs. Is the Eldorado FM (92.9). This is a different radio, because plays some diferent groups like Prefab Sprout, China Crisis, Style Councyl, and others. Another radios plays Brazilian musics only, or clasical (elevator musics :), or hard rock/pop rock. Concluding my coments, the city of Sao Paulo is in the south-east of Brazil, close about 400 km from Rio de Janeiro (samba-city), and about 1500 km from Bahia State (african-musics-and-others-rithms-place). Here live more or less 25,000,000 people and is the bigest city from Brazil. Well, I think that now I introduced myself and I really want to read and talk with all my new friends from this list :). Well, I finally tried to convert the Matt Bianco tape from PAL to NTSC. I did manage to force the VCR to record NTSC4.43 signal, BUT since the PAL(I) source signal has 610 lines per frame, whereas NTSC4.43 only has 420 (or something like that), the recorded NTSC4.43 signal is rather unstable. You can just about see the picture (it wobbles!) but the sound is okay. (It would have been a lot easier for me had I needed to dub an NTSC4.43 tape into PAL(I). Damn!) Well, so I have also made a direct PAL(I) copy of the Matt Bianco video plus A New Day (in case there are differences from the US version), just to give a reserve solution should the NTSC tape not work at all on an NTSC monitor. Someone will then need to convert the PAL(I) tape into NTSC locally in the US. As long as you can find someone who has a multi-system VCR which can handle PAL(I) input signal and produce NTSC output signal, then all your need is to hook that up with another standard NTSC VCR! I will be sending both tapes off to Juan/John tomorrow. I'm sure he'll let us know how good (or how bad) the conversion was. Sorry I can't make it work any better, but at least I tried. I am Melissa Brockway and I have listened to Basia ever since she came out with Time and Time. I saw her LWNY show in Charlotte, NC in 1990 and her TSI show, again in Charlotte, in 1994. All of her songs are excellent, but the ones at the top of my list are: Yearning, Time and Tide, Miles Away, Reward, and Forgive and Forget. I do not have any of the rare CD's, such as promos and singles, but I do have some promo posters when her TSI CD was released, plus a poster of her that is similar to the cover of her "Brave New Hope" CD. I like that poster the best, even though my friends say she looks like Shannen Doherty! SCARY!! Any ideas on where I can get more posters, etc. of her? A friend got these at a record show in Charlotte. I could just KICK myself for not getting more souvenirs at the LWNY show other than a t-shirt! Just thought I would introduce myself and maybe I will take part in some discussions now, instead of being an observer (I did enjoy reading about the search for the laser disc in Sears)! That would be cool... it really seems that it would be best to use the frame sync on the link between the PAL and NTSC copies... Hello! My name is Kris, and I've been following the list for about two weeks. I love it! I have been a Basia fan since Time and Tide as well. I am a huge Manhattan Transfer fan, and at a concert of theirs the summer of 1986 I heard this really amazing pre-show music...A little while later I saw Basia and heard the music on the Tonight Show, and the rest is history. I was fortunate enough to see her live about 7 months later at The World Theatre in St Paul, MN. Amazing. She did Aretha's RESPECT--that is something I'll never forget. I can't wait until she makes it back here, same theatre I hope. I loved the story about Dennis seeing the video at Sears. I hear her in every store I go to, and I can't decide if that's good or bad...(Muzak??? I don't think so...) After a long period of listening to other music, I put LONDON WARSAW NEW YORK into my portable cd player and was hopelessly hooked. Now I have BASIA ON BROADWAY, and I must say that it's probably the best live recording I've ever listened to. Usually the band is too loud, or the crowd noise is overwhelming, but this sounds like they planned it out. Very impressive. I bought THE SWEETEST ILLUSION because I love Third Time Lucky, Drunk on Love and Yearning, but it's just not the same as the live versions--they're so much more fun! E-mail me at ssjoberg@InnovSoftD.com. I will definitely stay tuned to the list! Hey--has anyone heard anything about the accident Roach was in? Will have to write to NBC, to request a minimum of two weeks notice in future so I can arrange to be out of the country :):) As for earplugs. Well Diane perhaps that can be your next venture. You have to wonder: With the president of Peru being of Japanese descent (Fujimora ?), do Peruvians know and buy Basia? The bottom line, at any rate, is that Basia credits her musical influences ABOVE ALL to Brazil and Cuba: when, then, will she tour there? And if that should occur - will anyone go to see her? If nobody knows anything about her, why should they? Gerson: please tell us what kind of response Brasilians would give Basia tomorrow if she should hop off a 747 and gig.
