This could be a first, tho I have no way of knowing: Yesterday's Boston Globe has a review of Johnny Mathis' concert at Harborlights (c'mon, he's a legitimate artist, ain't he?). The writer included a partial set list of tunes, which he described as a "mix of Broadway and others" Mr. Mathis regarded as personal favorites. Among them was one entitled "The Olive Tree", not "AN Olive Tree", as appears on TSI and BOB. If anyone here happens to know someone who has seen Johnny lately, ask 'em about it. If this is the same song, it would be a first, as far as I know, for one of Basia's tunes to be covered (albeit during a live performance rather than on an album) by someone else. If it's not, then I'd be interested in knowing who on earth has covered her stuff. Hi everyone - This is my first contribution to the list... It would be VERY interesting to hear JOHNNY MATHIS do any sort of version of "An Olive Tree," especially since the song seems so personal and has such a tight connection to Basia's own life... anyone agree? Plus, the tune seems a bit out of his range, style wise, but maybe I'm wrong? I'd love to know if anyone has heard a cover of Basia's stuff as well...
