The new channel will be run by Andy Schuon, executive vice president of programming at MTV, and is expected to showcase an eclectic mix of videos by underground rock, jazz, rap and world music acts. The news of M2's is welcome at the six major record companies, who complained in recent years that music has taken a back seat to game shows on MTV. (LA > Times) M2...sounds like a bad summer movie. "M2: Revenge of Hootie." Eclectic? Come on - you should all know by now that, to Viacom, eclectic means something along the lines of mixing in one or maybe two Melissa Ethridge videos with about 1,000 Hootie clips. Jazz? World Music? Not... Jazz probably means - well, I don't know what that means. But I'll bet 10 boxes of Capt'n Crunch that it DOESN'T mean Basia. World Music? That probably means Bjork or the Cranberries, 'cause they ain't from the U.S., thus making them "world" music. > maybe we'll get to see some Basia videos in '98. Only if we get some guns and storm the VH-1 offices... But you never know...
