I only just got into her (well, about two years ago - if I remember correctly) and would very much prefer to see it all. Because I missed out back when she was popular (back then, Debbie Gibson was my idol). I'm also willing to buy two (or three, or god forbid FOUR) VHS cassettes just to check it all out. And yes, it should go without saying that the VH1 special would be completely censored except for actual Basia appearances. And just how long is the Hutton interview, anyway? On another note - this e-mail address is going to be "out of commision" very shortly - so I have a favor to ask of anyone out there who doesn't mind using up some disk space: (1) Is this list available in a digest format - and (2) if so, is there anyone out there who would be so kind as to save the digests, starting with today's and thru July 6, so that they could send them to me upon my return? I won't be available for about two weeks, and my address will also change in the meantime. I'm going to unsubscribe as soon as I post these replies, so e-mail me privately if you'll do me that favor... The reason is that, in order to fit the extra length into the VHS cartridge, the manufacturer must use thinner tape. The end result is that both the emulsion as well as the polyester carrier are too fragile. The emulsion will wear off quickly, causing audio dropouts and video instability. The carrier is prone to break. The same advice holds for audio cassettes, where C-90s are preferred, and one should not exceed a C-100. BTW, I think Consumer Reports tested video tapes and found that any name brand, low end ($2) tape records about as well as so-called "high grade" premium tapes. My vote'd be to use as many T-120s as required. If the compilation can be assembled and preserved today, it can be transferred to DVD in a few years. The Digital Video Disk will provide an archival medium similar in quality to the Compact Disk and CD-R. I am very interested in obtaining the compilation once it is ready, and but even sadder that I have nothing "Basia" to contribute! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Larry Lipman - ------------------------------------------------------------ Commercial Music Program - The University of Memphis 232 CFA Building - Memphis, TN 38152 (901) 678=2559 [min. 6 rings to voice mail] FAX: (901) 678=5118 Internet: Llipman@admin1.memphis.edu ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------------------ From: sew_n_quilt@usa.pipeline.com (Sew_N_Quilt) Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 22:01:04 GMT Subject: Bootleg Basia Video I'm very interested in getting this video! I vote for having the music and interview material separated - either on separate tapes or on the same tape, but with the music clustered together and the interviews clustered together. - -- Sew_N_Quilt ------------------------------ From: "Jeff @ Rust Systems" Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 18:24:53 -0400 (EDT) Subject: pretty please I'm going to be temporarily unsubscribing from this list till I get my new address (in about two weeks). Although I haven't announced it yet (since it's still a work in progress), the list archives are available via the web at www.smoe.org/lists. I'll have searching enabled shortly (via Excite), and keep an eye out for more improvenents! In light of this, I'll save myself a little work! Thanks a lot JeffW (with three Jeffs here, we need to keep them straight :) Please erase the earlier posting about a yak.net archive from your mind.
