First, to satisfy the masses, I made a super-duper hi-fi ultra cool picture quality version of the "Lauren Hutton and..." Basia interview. Of course, this will be the tape that drives Ben mad - I think this brings the total up to 6 or 7. Second, in taping it, I was able to sit down and watch this interview for the second time. Yes, I had it on tape from before but I never watched it - - I know some of you may think otherwise, but I'm not the kind of person to sit down with the VCR remote doing a frame-by-frame analysis while making heavy, Beavis-like grunting noises. I leave that sort of thing to Phil. ;D Anyway, I caught a few more things this time around now that I wasn't so hung up on the son story (like so many of us apparently were). I think we can safely classify this as the most in-depth and therefore the best interview to date. Third, I officially cancelled my WOM order yesterday. I give up. I figure its no use getting so pressed over one track. Plus, I think we can take comfort in the fact that once the 1998 album comes and goes - which I'm convinced will be the last - Sony will PROBABLY make one last hurrah and release some sort of Greatest Hits, complete with unreleased tracks (so the loonies like us who already have everything have something new to be, albeit only one or two tracks). A WOM track shouldn't elude us for too long. I think there are too many sharp minded people on this list for the track to fall completely through the cracks. Fourth, WHEN IS THAT PETER WHITE ALBUM COMING OUT!?!?! Di - is there going to be a tour (I can't remember if you answered this question before or not)? Lastly - Ben, you selling any of those Atari Cartridges? I've got someone willing to pay $200 for your copy of WIZARD OF WOR... 1998 is just around the corner! I'm not so sure what to do with the two long pieces -- the Hutton interview and the LWNY VH1 special. I don't want to put them in the compilation because they would eliminate the flow. Plus, 3/4" is limited to 60 minutes a stretch, so I've already budgeted two tapes for the master -- any material over two hours might get cut. This project is focusing mostly on music... I'm including a couple of small (less than 5 minute) interview type clips, but I think that the two long pieces should get seperate distribution (or at least a tape to themselves). > Lastly - Ben, you selling any of those Atari Cartridges? I've got someone > willing to pay $200 for your copy of WIZARD OF WOR... Way off topic -- tell your friend to check out rec.games.video.classic. Wizard of Wor for the 2600 regularly goes in auction for $5-$10. That is where I got my copy. > 1998 is just around the corner! ...and it's gonna be a new day for you! - -- Benjamin L. Ben, I love ya to death, but I'm about to yell at you. Let me apologize for that ahead of time. First, I've got to do the unthinkable (yes, this is an ultimatum) - either everything stays intact or I'm not sending my tapes. The whole point of this was to provide people on the list with a *DEFINITIVE*, *UNABRIDGED* copy of performances, interviews, etc. We're not making a Sony Commercial Release (which is what this is starting to look like) - cutting stuff would be a GRAVE mistake. > This project is focusing mostly on music... Aw, come on, Ben! What the hell is that gonna accomplish? "Wow, I got Ben's tape today. Its so cool! I love 'Half a Minute' and 'Drunk on Love' and now I get to see them performed three different ways!" Now, if you're gonna cut the longer stuff, people are going to miss out on things like Basia hosting the VH-1 Top 21 countdown. Now, as far as I know, I'm the only person who has that on tape. The original show was 2 hours long, but once you cut out all the videos and commercials, Basia's physical presence only lasts about 15-20 minutes. Still, if you're sticking to what you said before, this would be cut. What would that accomplish? I'd still be the only person on the list with this performance and people would still be missing something in their own, personal collections. Plus, this appearance is hilarious because its Basia doing something she shouldn't be doing - hosting a show. > I'm including a couple of small (less than 5 minute) interview type clips, > but I think that the two long pieces should get seperate distribution (or > at least a tape to themselves). The only thing you would accomplish by cutting out material would be to deprive fans on this list of tv material that they don't have. The whole point of this was to get people on this list copies of EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. My original idea was to either stuff everything onto one t-160 tape or spread it out over two t-120s (ala "The Longs" and "The Shorts"). Now, believe me, quality is important to me, too, but I'm not doing this for me. I'm doing it so that people on this list can get copies of performances, ALL THE PERFORMANCES, that they otherwise would not be able to get. If that means I have to make a third generation copy of Phil's tape then I would willingly do it. Really - which would you rather have? A bad copy of a performance or no copy at all? Two, two-hour, Super High Grade Scotch tapes would only cost $5 and some change. This was what I was going to charge people to get the "definitive" collection - now we're axeing out content for the sake of time and convienience... what's wrong with this picture? I will not contribute to a project that does that. I hate to be a dick about this but I'm not going to promote a tape that cuts out GOOD material. If I have to go back to square one and do this all myself then believe me, I will. Sorry to be so rude, Ben, but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em. OK... hmmm, I don't mind editing together all the material. What if I split the tape into two sections... one with music, one without? My concern was that I wanted to get as much as possible in there. Taking up 50 minutes of time with two long programs that many people already have was my concern. > Now, if you're gonna cut the longer stuff, people are going to miss out > on things like Basia hosting the VH-1 Top 21 countdown. I was saying that the Hutton piece and the long VH1 special would be on the longs tape. Really this was not me wanting to CUT anything, just me thinking out loud about the editing and distribution logistics. Please, I will put out ANYTHING Basia-related in the video... I didn't mean to say that I didn't want some stuff... I was just wondering what the proper format. Do you want music aggregated with interviews, or should they be separate parts of the tape. Also, should we duplicate _A New Day_? That would be unreasonable to me, as the tape is readily available. Ben, Couldn't agree more: stick to the music. Forget the Hutton interview (if she had only hummed a bar or two, might be different), and as to the VH1 special, the segemnts not making it into the _A New Day_ release might be usable as fillers. Majewicz" Date: Thu, 27 Jun 1996 21:13:11 +0000 Subject: Yearning Edit? Is anyone aware of an edited version of "Yearning"? Some time ago I reported hearing the song on the Jones 'SuperAudio' service via my cable system. I thought something was odd about it that first time, but the room was noisy, and I couldn't hear it clearly. Today, I heard it again, and noticed that it was edited. I don't know for sure, but I would assume that a service like this uses CD's for their playback source. So maybe there's another remix CD out there, OR, they are using DAT and did the edit themselves. It sounded slick enough, but they cut out the whole second verse! It went right from "...what are we to do when we're homeless in our hearts..." to the refrain "But I'm yearning no more..." without the repeated "homeless hearts and souls" at the end of the first verse. They also cut the Polish words at the end of the song. This is kind of disturbing, because it cuts out an important part of the lyrics. The song's strength is in its emotion. There is a lot lost without the second verse. Den - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dennis J. I, for one would like to see everything that's available. I don't believe I ever saw the Top 21 Countdown. It would be a shame to leave out bits a pieces like that. First, if I have to make a second or third tape on my own consisting of the longer pieces, ala Lauren Hutton, VH-1, Top 21 Countdown, etc. then I'd be more than happy to. Next, I could also include on this "bonus offer" a copy of the NEW DAY tape seeing as how there is an apparent minority of people out there who have yet to see those videos. Actually, Ben, the tape is becoming more and more scarce as it just recently went out of print. Toodles for now!
