Basia Polish Bigos 1 pound sauerkraut, prepared, chopped 1 pound cabbage, chopped 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 large onion, sliced 1/2 pound pork, beef, chicken, or Polish kielbasa sausage, cut into cubes (use just 1 meat or a mixture--the more variety, the better the taste) 1 pound mushrooms 3 tomatoes 1 tablespoon tomato puree Salt and pepper, to taste Sugar [amount not listed] Some red wine (it will greatly improve the flavor) Bring 1 cup water to boil in heavy large Dutch oven. Add sauerkraut and cabbage, cook until soft. Heat oil in large skillet. Add onion and meat, cook until browned. Remove from skillet and add to cabbage mixture. Add remaining ingredients and cook 1 hour. Serve with bread or potatoes. Please note: The quantity of each ingredient is very flexible and you can experiment with different combinations, but remember that the cabbage is the most important and the healthiest part of the Bigos. I've recently started adding interesting postings from the mailing list to my archives -- I'm going to be looking back through my saves messages to pull out a few more pearls. I'm also going to produce thumbnails for some of the larger images so people can get a preview before taking several minutes to grab the larger pics. Are there any other suggestions that you all would have for the site? I'm not into Netscapisms, although I do plan on making a style sheet for it soon. Interactive content seems a bit hokey, but I'm open to ideas. BTW, the video projects is moving along. I've gotten tapes from two list members, plus my own stash. I'm still waiting on stuff from a certain insect member, however. :) - -- Benjamin L. I know who you are, so let's hope this guilt trip will kick something into effect. 1. Basia and Danny being interviewed on "After Hours," 7/16/90 2. Basia doing "Run for Cover" on Letterman, sometime in 1988 3. Basia doing "Time and Tide" and "Astrud" on the Tonight Show, June 1988 - now I know Ben says he's already gotten it, but he also says its very poor quality wise. Someone else on the list has this, so I wish they would contribute it. 4. Basia on GMA, August 1990...song: unknown 5. Basia on CNN's Showbiz today, May `94...interview and video clips Next, I noticed Phil has sent a copy of the `90 Carson/Leno performance but I think we need to get another copy of it, if possible. Nothing against Phil, but his copy is incomplete - if its all we can get then cool, but the whole point of this thing was to get the best possible copies for the compilation so we're not kicking ourselves 6 months from now when someone orders a copy of the tape and says, "hey, I've got this performance and its a much better copy. Too bad I didn't say anything earlier." BTW, Ben - you're in for a real mess when you get my tapes. I've got duplicate copies of different things spread out over 4-6 tapes. I'm going to have to draw you a treasure map for you to work this thing out... Have fun! ;D Toodles! ------------------------------ From: "Vince Mora" Date: Sun, 23 Jun 1996 18:03:01 -0600 (MDT) Subject: BasiaWeb gets better, I hope Ben writes: [re: BasiaWeb, ] > Are there any other suggestions that you all would have for the site? > I'm not into Netscapisms, although I do plan on making a style sheet > for it soon. I can digitize this from the CNN piece, so let me know if you'd like it. Jeff, I think you have confused this performance ('90) on Leno with the more recent one (Drunk -'94) in which Leno states the birthplace of a European model who will be appearing on the next show as Poland, and which Basia correctly states is Czchekoslovakia (wow is that spelt rite?). My tape is of a performance after which I don't believe ANY interview or further utterance from B was forthcoming. If I am wrong, and she did say something after the break, it wasn't more than a "Tank you, Jeh" a nod, and no interview. The musical performance itself is complete. If I really wanted to send incomplete stuff, I would have forwarded my clip made during the '94 Grammies, in which she is seen for 1.4 seconds sitting in the audience behind behind REM, who are solemly rising to accept ANOTHER stupid Grammy. She is sitting with a fat guy with a gray-streaked beard, BTW. > > BTW, Ben - you're in for a real mess when you get my tapes. No, I know exactly which performance it is - its one of the ones you sent to me a year ago. It cuts off just as Basia sits down on the couch...why, I have no idea - it just does. BTW, the model Jay was talking about was "Paulina" (I think she dropped the Porizkova bit after she married that dude from the Cars) and she's from CZECHOSLOVAKIA. ;) > My tape is of a performance after which I don't believe ANY > interview or further utterance from B was forthcoming. BTW, your transcription sounds more like Bjork, not Basia. ;) > The musical performance itself is complete. In addition, Ben, perhaps you should add clips from "Angels Blush" or the studio version of "Half a Minute" - give fans who are new online a taste of something they might not know about. Ben will tell you why - he's got the original. All right, I'll tell you. I'ts because I parked the cassette at the end of the Basia spot, and soon after that Lyle Lovett was appearing, and I pressed 'record', and of course the machine had backed up a few inches, overwriting any bleed I had following B. But I'll stake my reputation on there being nothing after she plunks down in the chair. Since my reputation has been mortgaged, I have nothing to lose, obviously. Anyway, Ben might want to check Lyle out, if he hasn't already. Lyle's hot in Austin, I suspect. Phil (that's right, who's not from Texas) ------------------------------ From: "J.S. Phil, there's an appropriate saying that should typcially follow hearing a story like that - a saying used a lot by, say, Butthead. I would hate to lose credit for what I've done so far - - I aced `Head Cleaning Lab', and I think I did pretty good on the `Creative Cassette Labelling' section, but won't know until the mail gets here tomorrow. You know, to tell you the truth, Jeff, I think faculty morale has really gone downhill since they dumped Sally Struthers. But the tale will be told when I cycle through Placement. I've already given them Ben's and Juan's addresses, so I have a Positive Feeling about what I'm doing........... > > > But I'll stake my reputation on there being nothing > > after she plunks down in the chair. > > no comment. ;D > Uh oh.
