If we lied and put "book" on the customs form (being the good little postal employee that I am, I didn't really say that... did I?).... do you think the customs guys in Russia would open it, see what it is and then confiscate it? I guess we could always hide it in a fruitcake (fruitcake = nasty, inedible brick of "food" given to people you don't really like as a Christmas present) Nobody in their right mind would confiscate a fruitcake, not unless they needed a door stop. Basia on VH-1, late May 1989 - a brief interview which appeared on the now defunct "Top 30 Countdown." Basia was the featured artist of the week. No songs were performed. 2. Basia on VH-1, February 17th 1990 - the half hour "London Warsaw New York" special which appeared four days after the album was initially released. Includes extensive interviews with Basia, Danny, and includes clips of videos from "Whose Side Are You On," "Time and Tide," and "LWNY." Abbreviated versions of the interviews later appeared on "A New Day." 3. Basia on CNN's Showbiz Today, March 1990 - a brief interview. No songs performed. 4. Basia on Late Night With David Letterman, mid May 1990 - performed "Best Friends." Brief interview. 5. Basia on the Tonight Show, ??? 1990 - performed "Cruising for Bruising" and "Baby You're Mine." Brief interview. 6. Basia on the Arsenio Hall Show, July 23rd 1990 - performed "Until You Come Back to Me." Brief interview. 7. Basia Hosting VH-1's Top 21 Countdown, August 16th 1990 - One of VH-1's many failed ideas, which featured a new artist hosting the show every week. Two hours of Basia playing the week's top 21 video hits. No songs performed. 8. Basia on Late Night With David Letterman, November 23rd 1990 - performed "Copernicus." No interview. 9. Basia on the Arsenio Hall Show, May 9th 1994 - performed "An Olive Tree" and "She Deserves It." Brief interview. 10. Basia on the Tonight Show, July 1994 - performed "Drunk on Love." Extremely brief interview (not even!). 11. Basia on the Today Show, August 23rd 1994 - performed "Drunk on Love." Brief interview. 12. Basia on the Late Show With David Letterman, November 1994 - performed "My Cruel Ways." No interview. 13. Basia on Regis and Kathie Lee, November 3rd 1995 - performed "Half a Minute." Brief interview. 14. Basia on F/X's Breakfast Time, November 7th, 1995 - performed "Half a Minute." Brief interview. 15. Basia on "Lauren Hutton And..." 1996 - Extensive Interview. Next, here are the performances which other people have said they have: 1. Basia and Danny being interviewed on "After Hours," 7/16/90 2. Basia doing "Run for Cover" on Letterman, sometime in 1988 3. Basia doing "Time and Tide" and "Astrud" on the Tonight Show, June 1988 4. Basia on GMA, August 1990...song: unknown 5. Basia on CNN's Showbiz today, May `94...interview and video clips 6. Basia on GMA doing "She Deserves It", 11/18/94 Now, when everything's said and done, it looks as though we have enough to fill two tapes. I, like Ken, have two hifi VCRs (Sony) and of course would be willing to put a collection together. My copies of the 1990 Tonight Show and May '90 Letterman performances are both 2nd generation, but everything else is first hand. Hopefully, someone else has two good complete copies of those performances that can be used for the tapes. And since we have enough for two tapes, perhaps I could do one and Ken could do another...? I wouldn't mind sending my tapes somewhere as long as I was 100% sure I would get them back... Ok - the ball is back in your court people...let's hear it. Toodles! Don't I wish... course I'd much rather be a CEO at, say, Viacom (where I would be in charge of VH-1) - if this were the case, things would be back to the way they were before 1992 on VH-1 and Hootie and the Blowfish would still be playing in some suburban garage... what a happy world that would be. Basia and Julia Fordham would still be getting airplay and MTV-lite would've never happened... Toodles for now... I don't think we'll have to resort to that, after all, none of US give a damn about copyrights either!! :D JSL. ********************************* R O A C H ********************************* * The Roach Motel @ http://zeus.towson.edu/~jlohr1 -- Bugs are people, too * * He loves Yugoslavians, Boba Fett, Chunky Chicken, and Yummy British Cows * ***************************************************************************** ************* "Live every day as if it were your last `cause ************* ************* sooner or later, you'll be right." - Hal Roach ************* ********************************* R U L E S ********************************* ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V1 #119 ***************************
