Water on March vs. Later in March? The Fifth Track Re: The Fifth Track FS: Import CD's ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "J.S. Lohr" Date: Mon, 1 Apr 1996 03:07:11 -0500 (EST) Subject: A Possible "Water of March" Sighting... ...or "listening" would be more appropriate. First off, let me start off by saying that this isn't some sort of sick, twisted April Fool joke - this really happened. God only knows what kind of perverted message I'd post as an April Fool's prank. :D Anyway, I was driving the Roachmobile today and I was flipping through the stations when I got to 106.7, WJFK, which during the week is a classic rock (I think) station (though it carries most of the U.S.'s more popular syndicated shows, like Howard Stern's or the Greasman's) but on weekends they play nothing but "Smooth" (what a yuckie term!) Jazz. No matter where you find yourself in the area, though, this station almost never comes in clearly. I mean, you could park your car right next to the transmitter and it still would sound a little fuzzy (at least its been that way in my experience). So, I hesistate for a moment on 106.7 to hear what it is they're playing ('cause every so often, especially on the weekends, they'll play something good) when, after a few seconds of hearing this "song," I could swear it sounded like Basia singing. After another few seconds, I wasn't able to match it up with anything I'd heard before...there was even a millisecond I thought it might've been "Angels Blush" but it definitely wasn't. It had a sort of exaggerated beat to it (dare I say, "samba?") but after another few seconds, the signal got fuzzy and by the time I regained reception they'd started playing another song. I'd say the whole experience lasted for only about 7-9 seconds. So, while waiting to hear if they'd identify the song, I replayed the little bit in my head (giving the whole thing a nice "Zabruder Film" feel to it :D) trying to figure out what it might've been. Needless to say, they never identified the song. Now, the question is, was that song a Basia song? And if it WAS, was it from the forthcoming travesty known as WATER OF MARCH? Was it Basia singing? If I had to make a bet, I'd say it was. But, I've confused bits of old Swing Out Sister and Everything but the Girl songs for "new" Basia songs before. If it was Basia, then was the song one of the new remakes from WATER OF MARCH? Well, I've said before that I'm not that big a fan of Astrud Gilberto's (or Antonio Carlos Jobim's) work, so therefore I'm not that familiar with it. Assuming the song wasn't some promo which has fallen through the cracks for all these years or that it wasn't SOMEONE ELSE then, yes, it probably was from WATER OF MARCH. But don't quote me on that. I guess I could do the typical sicko-psychopath thing and call up the radio station and badger the poor programming dude but I don't care enough about 'the' betrayal to give that much of a damn. If it was, indeed, a track from WATER OF MARCH then I'd just assume not hear it. But, of course, I wouldn't want my pettiness to get in the way of passing this news on to those who are looking forward to getting and hearing this new album. I'd sooner die than keep this news to myself! :D Keep the faith! This is... ============================================================================= Like ohmigod! Roach has a homepage! Almond" Date: Mon, 1 Apr 1996 09:55:05 -0600 Subject: Water on March vs. Later in March? I don't want to say Basia's publicist doesn't know what she's talking about, but I just bought a Japanese CD by Basia called "Later in March." Could it be that "Water on March" was typo-laden? I think the similarity of the titles is too close to be a coincidence, and there's nothing on this CD that resembles Jobim's "Water on March." This EP contains five tracks: 1. the title track (an original song in which Basia describes the aftermath of a New Year's Eve fling; the guy who picked her up at a party wants to continue dating, but she politely tries to discourage him--"I don't mean to be harsh, but maybe we should wait 'til later in March.") It's a mellow ballad with a hook line that literally yanked my brain the first time I heard it. 2. The AG Medley/Astrud (Apparently this is a live recording consisting of "Girl from Impanema," "Wave," and several other Antonio Carlos Jobim songs that Astrud had recorded and are referred to in the lyrics for "Astrud." The track is almost 14 minutes long, but the first minute is spent with Basia introducing the medley and explaining her fondness for Astrud Gilberto. Maybe this track is what Basia's publicist was thinking of when she described "Water on March." 3. Angels Bush (Yes, it's "Angels Blush," but there's a typo on the sleeve AND the CD. Too bad they didn't throw in an apostrophe in "Angels." It could have made the title almost pornographic.) :] 4. Struck (another original, but no lyrics, just ba-da-ba-da a la Swing Out Sister's "Coney Island Man.") I forgot to write the fifth track. I'll go home and check it during lunch hour and post the title this afternoon. B.J. ------------------------------ From: "B.J. I dunno, BJ....I think "Later in March" was a little easier to swallow than "Water in March." It, at least, was only an EP. > And if it's any consolation to those of you who have already ordered "Water > on March" from Banzai, a U.K. mail order company called Revolution that > specializes in Japanese imports has "Water on March" on their list of CDs > scheduled for release in March.
