Ok you guys- you all owe me here!!! I just got off the phone with Dee Anthony- yes, Basia's manager. Here's the scoop: Water Of March is a FULL album of songs in tribute of Antonio Carlos Jobene (sp?) and is intended for release in ONLY Japan and South America. It was recorded with the entire band and is owned basically by Japan Sony not the USA. NEW ALBUM NEWS!!!!!! Basia, Danny, and the band have been writing songs for a new album. Dee is going to London to hear what has been done. They are going to possibly get a new producer to help speed the process along for a (GET THIS!!!) fall 1996 release!!!!!!!! Yes, I can only promise to give good news. As for a Danny White solo album- NONE is in the works. Basia and Danny and very careful in the recordings of songs and are perfectionists thus that is why Dee wants a producer to help them along and perhaps give them an evolved new sound. Anmyway, the Water of March album is not out for at least another month so hang in there. Take care as I am outta here for a vacation. I couldn't leave without sharing this news! This is real good news for all. I have been backlogged on my e-mail lately and have been going thru some old digests I hadn't digested yet, and this thing just caught me out... Steven, you one bonkers bobo! (I like it!) Rick DeCastro will tell you (beg, plead, cajole, *scream*) DON'T get her started!!! (heh!) Sorry I didn't vote on my top ten. Haven't had much time to think about it, but I truly love Copernicus, Time & Tide, Yearning, Brave New Hope, and Drunk On Love... Also love "Half A Minute", but felt that the BOB version of it was way too tame, I expect them to BLOW IT OUT every time I hear it. Wishful thinking? I think I like T&T because Basia just WAILS on the end... She's amazing... RE: The White Brothers band... I've always thought it would be funny to have a band with Peter White, Peter Green, Peter Wood, and all the other PETER guys who Peter WHITE has been mistaken for. And then the White Brothers *must* have their distant cousin Barry White in the group, too... And then there'd have to be Al Green, to go with Peter Green... Hmmm... This kind of stuff goes on at the Al Stewart mailing list where someone starts a thread on "The Stewart Brothers" band, Al, Rod, &tc... First of all, I'd like to thank Ken for finally finding out what this CD was. Secondly, I am deeply DEEPLY appalled by this news, enough so that I am seriously considering calling up CD Banzai and canceling my order. If my ears, as an American fan, were not meant to hear this album then I DON'T WANT IT. I can't stress how outraged I am at whomever is responsible for this inexcuseable treatment of the American fans. > It was recorded with the entire band and is owned basically by Japan Sony > not the USA. What the hell is the difference?! Its all Sony. And if they gave a damn about the American fans or the UK fans then we, too, would be able to buy this thing. And I'll bet my entire CD collection that that lousy friggin BOB thing has something to do with this... Sony probably thinks that this "special" crap won't sell because only 40 people bought copies of that piece-o-crud BOB (sorry to be so harsh but I'm a just a teensy bit peed off by this news - I know some of you out there liked BOB and I appreciate that, but I have to voice my opinion). And so what if its a tribute album? Why should the Japanese and the South Americans be the only ones to hear it? I mean, if Basia did a tribute album to, say, Stevie Wonder, would we want it released ONLY in the U.S.? I think not. This is just total bull*&#%. I would burn my copy of BOB if I knew I could get "Water of March" released here instead...I mean - which would you rather have? A glorified bootleg or Basia doing a studio version of "The Girl From Ipanema?" Do you actually have to think about it? > NEW ALBUM NEWS!!!!!! > Basia, Danny, and the band have been writing songs for a new album. Dee is > going to London to hear what has been done. They are going to possibly get > a new producer to help speed the process along for a (GET THIS!!!) fall 1996 > release!!!!!!!! Not to be a pessimist, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that fall 1996 release date. I don't think I need to remind everyone that the Sweetest Illusion had a target release date for fall 1992 and, of course, wasn't REALLY released until May 1994 (a good year and a half later). Hmm, let's see...let's do the math together, shall we? fall 1996 + a year and a half -------------------- sometime in 1998 Hmm...we're back to square one then, right? :) Actually, giving Basia and Danny (and the mystery producer) the benefit of the doubt, I think Summer '97 would be a much more reasonable release date for a "new" album. But we don't have to wait that long for a "new" album do we, because from what I can tell, there's already one available - but only in Japan and South America. To tell you the truth, I don't give a damn about WHAT Basia and Danny are working on NOW because the fourth studio album is DONE. Granted, it might be an album full of remakes but who cares - IT IS A FULL FLEDGED ALBUM THAT WE WILL _NOT_ BE ABLE TO GET. Yeah, sure, there's always import carriers but we're not gonna see this thing for another six months, especially if Ken's news is correct that it hasn't even been released in Japan yet (despite the fact that the online dealers gave it a December '95 release date). Also, if they don't release "Water of March" here, what's to stop them from not releasing this "new" album here upon completion, be it in fall '96 or summer '98 or a cold day in hell. > Dee wants a producer to help them along and perhaps give them an evolved new > sound. Three perfect studio albums have been made without an outside producer (yes, I know, that is only an opinion, but its mine and I'm stickin to it) and they want to bring in an outsider? HELLO, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? I can only think of one producer who wouldn't possibly destroy a new Basia album - actually, teaming up with him would probably make Basia a Top 40 artist again. So just who is this mystery boy? The winner is: Hugh Padgham. Arguably, one of the best producers in music today...he's produced albums and songs by Julia Fordham, Sting, Phil Collins (he won a grammy with him), and Melissa Ethridge, just to name a few. Putting Basia and Danny and Mr. Padgham together could bring back a lot of the old, alienated fans and bring Basia back to a Time and Tide-esque level of popularity. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. > Anmyway, the Water of March album is not out for at least another month so > hang in there. Again, the online shops have it down as having a December `95 release date. Who are we supposed to believe? > This is real good news for all. Well, some of it certainly is, but some of it definitely isn't. I think I would've rather not known what Water of March really is. Toodles! I have something else to look forward to this fall besides another Bills season:) JS, I don't understand. You obviously have imports in your collection that were not intended for distribution in the US. Why should Water of March be any different (except that it is supposedly a full album)? I eagerly await the CD no matter where it comes from. If this is a tribute to Jobim, it should contain jazz in a samba vein. Exactly what I want to hear from Basia. Also, if the new album in the works doesn't hit precisely this fall, well so what? It will come eventually (unless this is a cruel hoax). I have a few years on you, I'm sure, so trust me on this: good things *are* usually worth waiting for; and, you can't expect everything to be on time. This is true for babies, new car orders (especially that GM you ordered last week!), software (remember Windows '95?) and I guess CD's, too. If there's one thing we Basia fans have learned over the years, it's patience. Hang in there...
