Hmm...I wonder if it has the same photo as the 7" (one from the photo session which let to the UK "Time and Tide" cover (Basia with curly hair)). The 7" comes with two nice photos from the previously mentioned session. Still, I'd love to get a hold of all those UK CD singles from "Time and Tide" (the ones that Vince is hogging :D). Someday...someday... JSL. ------------------------------ From: "J.S. Lohr" Date: Thu, 14 Mar 1996 00:38:07 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: Angels Blush Thoughts On Wed, 13 Mar 1996, Dennis J. Devil's advocate mode on: telling from what CD Europe has in stock, you'd probably lose that bet. It looks like that "Brand New Single (TBA)" is nothing more than the Japanese single version of "Half a Minute" (that yuckie thing we've been talking about for the past few days). CD Europe has a pretty long list and "Angels Blush" was no where to be found. > (Has Ms T ever released a single - and I'm not talking re-mixes or > something that appeared on an import - in the past?) Hmm...well, sort of. There's always been that odd French 7" "Prime Time TV" non-Epic single which I dug up a few months back. It carries a short-haired picture of Basia and a 1986 copyright - this stuff was released long before "Time and Tide" ever lurked into your local record shop. Otherwise, nope...not as far as I know. But one never knows for sure. > So, pardon my ignorance, but, who the heck are "The Smiths"? Oh my...you never heard of the Smiths? Johnny Marr? Patrick Morrisey? Arguably one of the most popular "alternative" (yes, I hate that word) bands during the 1980's? That is, before Marr and Morrisey started fighting and called it quits... Ever heard of "Morrisey?" Same thing, just without Johnny Marr - he went on to play guitar for various people (like The The - do you know who THEY are?). :D > And, JS, when > do we get the full Wal-Mart story? (I was at our local one lately and didn't > see your face on any wanted posters! [Not that I would know it if I saw it > anyway.] "WANTED for import album funds embezzlement..." :) The full Wal-Mart story? Like how they are basically the 90's equivalent of pre-world war Nazi subversion? Or how their goal is to have May Day parades with large posters of Sam Walton being marched down the street preceeding assorted pieces of military hardware? And I bet you think I'm joking, too...ever read George Orwell's "1984" or see the movie version? Ok...just take that "Ingsoc" symbol and replace it with the Wal-Mart logo and that's pretty much the way Wal-Mart wants things to look in 20 years or so...I'll save the rest for the homepage (I SWARE I'm almost finished!). I am probably the oldest member of this group. (I was present for the genesis of Rock and Roll in the early fifties - - not that I remember it very well, you understand.) My musical tastes in the 80's went in the direction of jazz and, later, new age. I was trying hard to forget the polyester 70's :) I like to listen to 70's music now, but it's a nostalgia thing. Alternative is just not my cup of tea though we're surrounded by it here in Buffalo. There are probably four or five radio stations playing it in Buffalo, Rochester and the Toronto Metro listening areas. I stay with the "smooth jazz" station. Basia gets some air play, but nothing newer than LWNY. Peter White, though, is another story. His stuff is all over their playlist and I love it. I'm eagerly awaiting his latest CD. You mentioned Danny doing a solo thing in the future. How 'bout the Brothers' White teaming up? Sounds good to me! Why don't we take a survey and find out!!! :D I'm pretty sure that Ben and I won't be in the running for the top prize in that contest! > I stay with the "smooth jazz" station. I would listen to that more often, but the station formats in this area are so confused. We had pretty good one in this area for awhile (100.3) but it changed over to Oldies a little while back (and now they're like the #1 station in the area). Its replacement came about a year and a half later in 105.9 WJZE but they mix in a lot of CRAP with all the "good" stuff. Occasionally, I'll hear a Basia song (that is, when I listen to it) but I don't sit there 24/7 sifting through about 1000 Sade songs waiting for them to play something like "Astrud." They do play a lot of Peter White, too. But I spend most of my radio time on 99.1 WHFS which, yes, is the area's Alternative potentate. > You mentioned Danny doing a solo thing in the future. How 'bout the > Brothers' White teaming up? Sounds good to me! I've always wondered what an album like that would sound like...probably very "Time and Tide"-ish. I'm sure it would be mucho excellent; definitely a CD that I would wear out quickly. One can only hope... Yeah, let Basia retire. I'd be the first in line to buy a "White Bros." CD and go see them live at, say, The Birchmere. Maybe they can get Alan White to play drums! (no, they're not related...btw, Alan White plays drums for Yes) But don't get me started on that because if it never happens I'll be SO disappointed. Really, I can't WAIT to see what a Danny White solo album would sound like! Keeping my fingers crossed. Toodles!
