Waiting.... and wondering how to exact our revenge > should it turn out to be a CD full of remixes of "Half a Minute." Y'know I think it just sunk in - this CD could be ANYTHING. Granted, the "goober" on the phone said it was an EP, but that can cover a lot of different speculations. I mean, God forbid, it COULD very well be a CD full of (sit down, Dennis) "Half a Minute" remixes, with maybe, like, some long lost remake of some old Astrud Gilberto song. As Jim Garrison once said, "let's speculate for a moment, shall we...": Ok...an EP usually has AT LEAST five tracks, and let's assume that at least one of them, be it studio or live, is called "Water of March." Since the Japanese haven't slapped a title on it like "Best Remixes" or "Super Boffo Remakes and Live Dubs" then I think its safe to assume that this thing isn't going to be a "Best Remixes, Vol. III" in disguise. From that, let's assume that - just for the sake of speculation - that one of the tracks is "Angels Blush." That's two down. So what's left? Well, what else do we have that the typical fan hasn't heard, be it through the absence of a promo or through total non-existence on ANYTHING, be it a promo or foreign release? A) Remixes, like some of those super-bad ones (from a Basia fan's point of view) that came out of the "Sweetest Illusion" singles. But if this CD has, say, the Vokal Mix of "Third Time Lucky" on it then you don't have to worry about seeking revenge because I'll have already called up Dr. Kevorkian myself and beaten you to the punch... yes, that mix is THAT BAD. I doubt I'll have anyone disagreeing with me on that one. B) Leftover live tracks. Sit and ask yourself, "How long was the Basia concert in `94?" Well, let's do the math (this is the Merriweather show I'm using here so if you saw her in New York, pat yourself on the back and shut up) - Spyro Gyra came on at roughly 8:00. By 8:55, there were finished, and the roadies started disassembling their stuff. By 9:10, Basia was onstage. "Half a Minute" finished up at 11:00 exactly. Subtract five minutes for Peter White's nightly moment of glory, and you're left with 105 minutes of music. Now ask yourself, "Just how long was BOB anyway?" Well, let me answer that for you: it was just over 76 minutes long. Now, for the sake of a nice round answer, let's round that 76 down to 75, ok? Now, subtract 75 from 105 and you get 30 minutes exactly. That's a lot of music. Since they didn't do "Brave New Hope" nor "Dzien Sie Budzi" at the Merriweather show, then we have to assume that they replaced two songs from the original line up. But, the math says that at least THREE of the following songs have to have live Broadway versions floating around somewhere: Astrud, More Fire Than Flame, My Cruel Ways, An Olive Tree, and The Sweetest Illusion. Also, since the CD WAS 76 minutes long, unless there was some track-swapping going on, the foreign versions of BOB are exactly the same as the domestic version because there's no room left for bonus tracks...in other words, I think its safe to say that the Japanese version of BOB is identical to the US version. Hence these missing tracks aren't available ANYWHERE, except perhaps on "Water of March." And if I haven't confused you enough, there's still: C) Previously unreleased studio tracks. Where there's one "Water of March," there could be others, and they just weren't as fortunate as, say, "Angels Blush" in finding sanctuary in a promo. Have I made it clear that it just sunk in? I mean, I just spent near $40 for a total mystery. WE ALL DID. `Course, some of us were a little smarter than others by trying the CD Europe $27 plan, but... I mean, you credit card people don't get charged if it doesn't come, but me? Looks like I just sold my soul to CD Banzai. Why do I feel like I just threw away $40? Here's what I would do, call them and get names and tell them that the internet would not want to hear about this type of service. I do not think you threw away $40 BUT it is weird that none of us can get any info on this CD. I have tried various sources with no luck. I would hope that they don't screw you over but I have seen lots of places put ads for stuff they don't have or expect to get and it doesn't come in. That is why I am always up front about the stuf I sell (BTW, I sent your litho on Monday). I wouldn't give up hope yet BUT if they screw you please contact me privately and I will tell you more devious things to do to obtain either a refund or your CD! Later... Though not etched in stone, Christmas songs have historically been either part of Christmas albums or singles - not residing as the sole holiday song on an album. Since there hasn't been even a hint of a holiday CD forthcoming , could this be the mystery single TBA on CD Banzai? Pure guesswork here, but that would be my bet.(Has Ms T ever released a single - and I'm not talking re-mixes or something that appeared on an import - in the past?) So, pardon my ignorance, but, who the heck are "The Smiths"? And, JS, when do we get the full Wal-Mart story? (I was at our local one lately and didn't see your face on any wanted posters! I have a few Christmas CD singles that are no compilation albums. One awesome one by the BoDeans who I highly recommend. Also, one by the eagles although it has now popped onto some CDs. George Thorogood and Dave Edmunds are another couple that come to mind as well as the Kinks. Anyway, it would have been nice to see that CD on the radio at Christmas time. Score for Ken- got a copy of the promo CD single for Time and Tide. Never saw this one ever. It has a real cool pic of our Basia on the sleeve. I wish I had a scanner so I could share it- sorry.....
