If it *was* done in a studio, maybe it was at NBC the day they were cancelled because of the assassination ;) No effort at all went into the recording. It says something for the song, though, it can survive a half-hearted performance attempt and still endure. I really like it. As for the trivia question, I never saw the video. Ok...here's the deal: a) When was this "thing" recorded? - First, I thought it might've been a hack session put together back in November during the time was Basia was over here doing publicity for the ill-fated BOB. But, one obscure detail may ruin that theory: "Go fiz go fiz go fiz go fiz go." That little chant just before the trombone solo suggests that Fayyaz Virji was the one playing it... meaning that this probably wasn't recorded during the BOB publicity tour because there was an Incognito tour going on in Europe at the same time and since Basia and Incognito share the same session players, well... do the math. b) Was it recorded in a studio? - Granted, it sounds cheap and poorly produced, but I seriously doubt it was pulled from live tapes. Perhaps it was pulled from a demo from the practice sessions for the tour. Again, I thought it might've been pulled from the same session which produced "Angels Blush," but the songs lie at such drastically opposite ends of the production quality spectrum (Angels Blush = Super Awesome, Half a Minute = Super Yuckie) that for them to have been born of the same taping is near impossible. I have a feeling that "Water of March" may answer some of the questions we've had, that is, if it ever comes. > As for the trivia question, I never saw the video. I could guess the > obvious, but wouldn't want to look stupid. Do you mean to say that there are actually people out there who HAVEN'T bought "A New Day?" Oh my... Anyway, its NOT an obvious guess (ie it ain't a Basia album). Looks like I'm just gonna have to come up with a better question in the future. Eliminating the audience noise and isolating the instruments is not a big deal. Besides, what exactly does "remix" mean in this case? If there was a studio session, was it so far off base that they had to remix it to sound like the live performance (and all those we saw afterwards on TV)? I hope I'm right, because if, like you say, this is an indicator of Water of March, then we're in trouble. It just occurred to me...did you happen to catch the record dates of BOB? (I'm at work now and without the CD's at hand I don't remember where it was - - on BOB, or the "Half-a" promo, but it listed two consecutive days.) Could this possibly be from a rehearsal? BTW, by picking the obvious, I meant something related to MB - but here I am trying to look foolish again:) Best regards, Den ------------------------------ From: gerald@cyber-hawaii.com (Jay Johnson) Date: Tue, 12 Mar 1996 11:17:34 -1000 (HST) Subject: Re: Half a Yuckie Minute Ahh well sorry to tell you all this but i think Half a min. is cool i like it. On the contrary, I think it's very good - just a recording that is not up to her usual standards. I am very glad I got the CD. And yes, Angels Blush is wonderful. So warm and lush and richly textured. Quite a contrast to Half-a. BTW, Buffalo sucks too, but for other, obvious, reasons :D To JS - Duh...It was right in front of me all the time. Look at the back of the promo case. It says "Recorded at the Neil Simon Theatre, Broadway, on 24th and 25th November 1994." Same dates as on BOB. It *must* be from a rehearsal . Maybe? Huh? I figure it was made for distribution during the BOB promotion tour, hence the 1995 copyright. So there is hope for Water of March after all. I mean, its not like Basia and Danny are known for being trend-setting, earth-shattering, super-mongo-boffo- stupendous producers. And I don't care what ANY of you say, I've got my heart set on seeing a Danny White solo career rise out of the ashes of Basia- defunctness. It *must* be from a rehearsal Not necessarily...I mean, this IS Sony we're dealing with here. These are the same poor, confused, linear note makers who (like Ben said a few messages back) listed "Forgive and Forget" as previously unreleased. Granted, I defended them...all I'm trying to say is that I trust the linear notes about as far as I can throw them. Truth is...bottom line...and this is only MY opinion...the song sucked - that is, compared to the original. I can't believe I've wasted this much time on such a yuckie song. Just how long does it take CD Banzai (or CD-Europe, for that matter) to locate and ship a CD? The "Water of March" discussion has been going on here since the middle of February! If I didn't know better, I'd think someone "planted" the Water of March entry in the Banzai/CD-Europe inventory listings just to stimulate discussion in this group! Conspiracy theorists of the world, unite! Seriously, what's the story on Banzai? I've never ordered from them -- I once found a CD listed there for $50 (yes, fifty), then saw the same CD at ABCD's for $9, and -- well -- you can see why I didn't go back to Banzai. I'm also wondering how many of us actually tossed our $32 (or so) into the ring for Water of March. For myself, I put my order into CD-Europe on February 21st. They still show it as "On Order." The stories I've heard about CD Banzai are that they get it to you NO MATTER WHAT. Even if it takes 15 years and they have to steal the master tapes and burn you your own CD, they get it done. Its part of their excuse to keep the prices so high, whereas other CD joints (like CD Now, for example) will list an import CD and not be able to get it. > I'm also wondering how many of us actually tossed our $32 (or so) into the > ring for Water of March. For myself, I put my order into CD-Europe on > February 21st. They still show it as "On Order." Geez, even the lurkers are ordering it! D: I suddenly don't feel too good. Maybe I better see how much a pair of plane tickets to Acapulco cost. Just kidding. :) Anyway...I've heard horror stories about CD Europe, too, along the same lines of CD Now - that just because they have it listed doesn't mean that they can get it. You know what's gonna happen? A week before everyone gets their copy by mail, somebody's gonna post on the list how they walked into their local Best Buy and found three copies on the import rack...and then everyone's going to go to their local Best Buy and find the same thing, each copy costing @$15. And then everyone's going to get a baseball bat - one of those autographed Louisville Sluggers - and come to my house. Anyone got the number for British Airways?
