I don't think that one has any new songs (except Forgive and > Forget..which I already have on another disc). Well, the sound quality may be better. I've not done a side-by-side comparison of the two discs, but the hype is that the gold-plating improved reproduction and that they remastered from the original tapes. The packaging is OK with a slightly expanded book. Still, no lyrics. It also erroneously claims that "Forgive and Forget" was previously unavailable in the US. What was _Brave New Hope (EP)_, Sony? I got it, I like it, but I can come up with better uses of $25. - -- Benjamin L. Because this remake, in my opinion, isn't worth the CD its burned on...this song can't even remotely compare to the original (again, in my opinion), matter of fact, this song can't even remotely compare to monkey dung. I'll list my reasons, if y'all will bear with me for just a moment: a) Where's "Don't be naughty..."? b) that squealing and "lalala"-ing that Basia does throughout the song (at 0:43, 1:05, 1:27, 1:45, 1:49, 1:54, and 2:34) may work in the live version, but they make the studio version completely unbearable. c) Go fiz go fiz go fiz go fiz go (at 2:38) - I mean, come on! Is this a song or a jingle for Alka-Seltzer?!?! "Come on Danny," in "Third Time Lucky" is one thing, but - save the routing for an Orioles game. d) WHERE'S "Don't be naughty..."? (it was so important I thought it was worth mentioning twice). If I was Kito Poncioni or Mark Reilly, I'd be suing somebody...ANYBODY! I can't tell from the CD if this is from the same studio session that created "Angels Blush" (which is a wonderful, beautiful song), though I doubt it if "Half a Minute" was as hastily put together as it sounds ("Angels Blush" sounded a lot more complex than this "thing" (ala it probably took more than 30 minutes to record)). But if the mystery tracks (which may appear) on "Water of March" were taken from the same studio session as "Half a Minute" then it looks like I'm going to be lynched for getting everyone to buy it ("FORTY BUCKS FOR _THIS_!?!? YOU'RE A $%^&*#@, ROACH!"). Maybe Sony did us a favor by not releasing this thing here in the States...I just hope that Basia and Danny don't ruin anymore old Matt Bianco songs anytime in the near future. I guess that'll just about do it... OH, almost forgot - got a trivia question for everyone: In the video for "Cruising for Bruising," during the sequence where Danny is packing his "things," we see him looking at a pile of tapes...during this close up (at about 1:20 (that's minutes and seconds, btw) into the video) we get a long look at one tape in particular - what's the tape and who's the band (thankfully, Danny's thumb covers up the name of the band so you won't be able to freeze frame your way out of this one). This is a pretty easy one, so don't make me have to post the answer. :D Toodles! This is... ============================================================================= Like ohmigod! The sound quality on the gold disc seems to be a bit more "crisper" than the normal version. > The packaging is OK with a slightly expanded book. Still, no lyrics. Did anyone else notice that the mysterious "Biggin Hill" address didn't appear in the gold T&T linear notes? I thought maybe the address had become defunct, but Sony listed it again on the BOB CD - only for goodies instead of "correspondence." > It also erroneously claims that "Forgive and Forget" was previously > unavailable in the US. What was _Brave New Hope (EP)_, Sony? Giving Sony the benefit of the doubt, they may not consider the EP to be an official release. And, after all, neither "Forgive and Forget" nor "Give Me That" (which, I think, BOTH appear on the UK version of "Time and Tide") were available in the US until Brave New Hope...they might've just gotten confused and meant "previously unavailable on US versions of T&T." > I got it, I like it, but I can come up with better uses of $25. Something different. Very enjoyable, and I think it will be a Christmas favorite for many years to come for me. (Did anyone notice that the time on the cd doesn't match the actual?) I wish I had heard it before I submitted my top ten! Half a Minute *is* the version I heard in the store some time ago. Interestingly, it's called a remix. That implies two things to me. Either there is a studio version somewhere that this was mixed from, or it was taken from the tour, though not necessarily from the Broadway performance. I tend to think it is not a studio recording because the arrangement is rather simple and the backup vocals don't seem to be her voice. (To me, her vocals and backups have always been her signature.) If it was remixed from a road performance, it is somewhat disappointing, but still a pleasure to listen to ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V1 #57 **************************
