I have been a Basia fan for 6 years. I met her last year when TSI came out. She is very sweet and spent over an hour extra signing albums and talking photos. I didn't care for TSI when I first heard it ---- it was a departure from her earlier works but I put it on and let it play in the background and after a while I came to enjoy it. I did not buy BOB because there wasn't anything new on the album and I have already seen her live on stage. I hope she continues to write and record but who knows? Four years was a long time to wait for TSI and I really was "annoyed" about the wait. As for the change in her music, hey everyone changes as they grow older. How many of us are as "young and carefree" as we used to be? I think T&T reflected her youth, TSI a more mature, older person. I didn't receive the following two messages from "TimRu," (all I got was the quoting of mine and Dennis' messages) so I'm probably not the only one. I figured I'd forward them to the list for those like me who might not have gotten them (seeing as how Pine cuts off all the gibberish at the bottom of the screen) Here they are: In a message dated 96-02-07 11:46:19 EST, TimRu writes: Hey, is there any way to get Basia's marketing coordinator, or someone from Sony on-line to answer a few of our (outraged) questions? Or even Basia herself? Who around here has connections? ::::and in the second message: Also as one of those lurkers, I though I would finally have my say as well. The Sweetest Illusion is one of the best albums I have ever heard by any artist. This album was my first introduction to Basia (as opposed to many of you) and I was so overwhelmed that I went out and bought everything else I could find. Whereas I find TSI a mature, musically-perfect recording, her previous albums seem more immature and too 80's-popish in comparison. That is not to say that T and T or LWNY are bad; just I think she took some musical chances on TSI and broke free from the restraints "pop" music can place on an artist. With a collection of over 700CDs, The Sweetest Illusion is always in my CD player, and has been ever since I first heard Olive Tree. No other album can claim that distinction. Russ - ------------------------------------------------------------------ That's it...now for my reply. As for an "insider," we had one there for awhile in Diane Filsi but no one seems to know what happened to her. BTW, not to be nosy, but AOL has the feature of being able to check current user profiles...Diane still has her profile here (as ExcusezMoi). I really wanted that PW newsletter, too! :( Also, we may have a potentate-in-waiting in John from Carolina (sorry John, I forgot your last name!) who was bold enough to try to call Basia's publicist (who's probably the core problem of EVERYTHING) at Sony, so...go John! I'll leave off this message the way I leave all other messages associated with this topic: we need a fan club/newsletter of some sort. That's the only way that these "problems" are going to be solved. Toodles! Tonight's Episode of "Complaint USA" stars Roach as FrankD121! :) ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V1 #27 **************************
