Yes, that's right...while pumping gas in the Roachmobile, I heard the mysterious Ben's Phone Mix of "Half a Minute" over the gas muzak speakers. I got a good listen and managed to stay for the entire song. It is definitely: a) A studio version b) Brand new (ie 1995) So that means that there is either: a) a promo CD floating around somewhere with this studio track, or b) the Japanese "Brand New Single" thingie is this new version of "Half a Minute," or both of the above. The song is performed almost exactly the same way as she did it on the talkshows back in November, with the added "la la la's" and the butchering of the word "suddenly." The arrangements on this one were alot better than the original, but the vocals on the original bury this new one (IMHO). I'm assuming that Sony probably made Basia and Danny go back in the studio to do a new rendition of "Half a Minute" in hopes of having at least one studio single to go along with any possible singles off of "...Broadway," or to try to copy the song's original quasi-success which it found in Europe back in 1984. We should be worried that there are all these mysterious new versions and all new songs popping up here and there in foreign CDs (granted, "Angels Blush" was from an apparent US promo) because that could mean that Sony is starting to give up on promoting Basia here in the States. I'm starting to think that "...Broadway" was a huge mistake. Commercially, it didn't help matters much. ------------------------------ From: juan paxety Date: Sat, 20 Jan 1996 17:52:54 -0500 Subject: Re: I heard Half a Minute!!! You leave Basia alone. She says "suddenly" fine. You should have to listen to the goobers I hear trying to pronounce english here in the piedmont area of North Carolina, where everyone looks, and talks, like Richard Petty. (I know that I can safely say this today because all of the NASCAR fans are in Winston-Salem at a big NASCAR preview show.) un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ From: "Dennis J. Apparently it's being played via satellite delivered music services. We have to find out how to get a dub of it. Den ------------------------------ From: "J.S. And, since apparently no one jumped on that Polish CD dealer for those old Alibabki or Perfect CDs (ie no one wants to take the chance), well, then it looks like its going to be me. C'est la vie! Or, maybe one of our promo scouts (Ken?) can scour the streets for one. Still, $28 for a sorta ok version of "Half a Minute?" I don't know about this one. And I know that at least ONE of us has to be a die-hard listener of jazz radio...has anyone heard this song on the radio? It could be like that mysterious Phil's Maine Gas Station Mix of "Third Time Lucky" which, as it turns out (thanks to the info I just recently recieved from B.J.) is off of a foreign CD single or promo of some kind (Phil! You weren't going nuts!!). Maybe someone should call up their local jazz FM station and request it and see what happens. Damn it, we need a fan club. I hate this "living in ignorance" crud. BTW, I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but Sony hasn't updated their musical web pages since November. And that's the closest thing we can ever get to an "inside track." Of course, things could be worse. We could all be Matt Bianco fans. ;) ------------------------------ From: Philip B Hall Date: Sun, 21 Jan 1996 00:08:45 -0500 (EST) Subject: Re: I heard Half a Minute!!! On Sat, 20 Jan 1996, J.S. I don't wanna get hurt..........though as a Basia fan I guess I should get used to pain. > Of course, things could be worse.
