We only remembered to get some new content up on Tyrtle at about 8:00 and by then I was fading fast. I almost fell asleep with Paul while Sage went to get the laptop at 8:30 and am probably not going to be awake too much longer now. Anyway - here's her entry: http://www.tyrtle.com/todd/072100.html. And not to spoil the entry for you but where she talks about *us* muddling through and making fires happen in the rain. She's just being nice. She did it all herself while Paul and I stayed dry inside. - -Todd todd@tyrtle.com www.tyrtle.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 22:11:07 -0500 From: "Sage & Todd" Subject: Who says it's quiet in the country Maybe you've heard me mention how noisy it is out here at night. Well, spur of the moment while I came to the hammock near the house to upload everything I decided to record a clip of all I'm hearing outside. You can find it here: http://www.tyrtle.com/todd/nightsounds.wav. It's not the best quality as I'm just using a laptop microphone but it'll certainly give you an idea of all that we hear. Anyway - the scratchy sounds are cicadas. They go all night from about the end of June through about October. In a week or two they'll probably start doing it in the daytime too. I find it intensely distracting. The other, ghostly sounds are the blue-tick hounds about a mile or so away at a neighbors. They go all year as you can imagine. It is just as rare for me to walk outside at night and have it be dead silent as it was in the city. - -Todd todd@tyrtle.com www.tyrtle.com ------------------------------ End of b2bnotify-digest V2 #48 ******************************
