And maybe there is less money to be made from albums, re-releases etc and other avenues need to be explored and given priority. The Jazz Age certainly wasn't to my taste but in hindsight it seems it was a masterstroke with respect to The Great Gatsby film. He must've got some money for that, it raised his profile etc. Andrew www.andrewshearer.com Twitter & Facebook: @shearermusic > From: johnobrien1965@outlook.com > To: avalon@smoe.org > Subject: RE: [AVALON] Re: Roxy Music Box Set > Date: Tue, 28 Jul 2015 09:21:00 +0000 > > I have just read the post in the archives and as the composer of that I feel I > have to reply. > > At the time I wrote that, I meant every word and still stand by what I wrote > then, it was relevant and informed based on track record at the time of > writing 12 years ago. > > I also believe that since then things have improved a lot more in terms of web > presence, informing of tours in advance etc all the things that many of us > complained of here. Online/digital versions that people actually pay for might be the only recourse. These are not really what we crave though. When Phil is saying that revenues from a sample by a "popular" artist are worth more than 15 years of Roxy royalties we get a sense of just how much a niche Roxy release is worth in financial terms - we anoraks alone can hardly make it worthwhile . Ahh The Jazz Age! I genuinely enjoy most of that stuff - even though it is difficult to understand just exactly what Ferry contributed. He clearly has a fondness for the era stretching back to TFT in '73 and perhaps peaking in '99 with ATGB. I credit this album with providing the restart that was so badly needed at that time. My teenagers will regularly listen to the Gatsby soundtrack, and for what it is worth the Jazz Age Reason or Rhyme is one of my favourite tracks with any association to BF. Takes all sorts I suppose ;-) Glad to see the burst of energy (warts and all) that has resurfaced on the list.
