Heard that Paul Thompson is now playing with Lindisfarne, currently touring with some pre-Christmas dates. I've got a copy of The Thrill Of It All, the book on Roxy Music by David Buckley and the 4CD box set, both signed by Bryan Ferry, Eno, Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera. The glaring omission has been the now-holy grail signature of TGPT. The nearest date to me by a LONG way was Nettlebed Folk Club in Oxfordshire, but it's been sold out for months. The club volunteers told me I could whistle when I enquired about returns. So I resigned myself to travelling to the gig and just hoping for a chance to grab the autographs either before or after the show, without actually seeing it. But as I looked for the dressing room, a door opened and there was Paul Thompson. He signed for me happily and posed for a picture. Just as we would be going, he asked where I'm from, how far I'd come. I explained I'd gladly come from home just for the chance of the signatures, even though there'd been no tickets. "Stay there, I'll see what I can do, can't have you going back to Luton", he said and so, Diana Harper (who was prepared to accompany me on this fool's errand) and I are attending a Lindisfarne gig on the band's guest list.
