"That's not a judgement on quality as it's probably the best Ferry lp since Boys and Girls," In addition to Boys and Girls, Avonmore hasn't the artistic quality of Mamouna, Bjte Noire nor Olympia; furthermore, I venture to say the Taxi covers album is superior compared to Avonmore! As a matter of personal taste and interpretation, I feel Avonmore suffers from weak vocals and some very poor lyrics. Absent too, there is not a hint of edginess that seemed present in previous efforts. First impressions predominating - if Avonmore had been my initial exposure to BF's work - I probably would not be interested in exploring his back catalog. I am embarrassed to think Team BF has been clutching at straws... Also curious why, with an album to promote, he's only doing two numbers from it on the tour. I've heard him mention at least three times how the songs on Avonmore are tailored to sound good live...
