So, two 25 year old songs to start the album (Loop De Li is a reworked 'Your Love Has Died' from 'Horoscope' and 'Midnight Train' is from the same sessions. Two of the better ones IMO). 'Send in The Clowns' is a Taxi outtake (maybe he could release this as an EP backed by 'Amazing Grace' as 'Judy Collins-esque'? With tracks on 'both sides now' maybe...*coughs*) 'Johnny and Mary' we knew about; looks like a bonus track. I had heard some chilling rumours about 'Western Swing' and mercifully these were unfounded. Did notice some recycled lyrics... 'spinning round my brain'....'takes you by surprise'...etc. I'm hoping there won't be any 'dogs eating dogs', or the conclusion of the 'topiary' trilogy. Not easy (and wrong) to judge the album from short clips but this feels to me like a stronger set of songs than Olympia, even though it's hard to get away from the 'Mamouna III' vibe. Particularly liking tracks 5 and 7 though, and looking forward to hearing the whole thing. I can't help thinking that somewhere hidden in the whole Horoscope/Taxi/Mamouna/Alphaville shenanigans there was a really very good album indeed that didn't quite make it out. Very wise.. ;) Ok kids, talking of endless ersatz funk-lite grooves; here's a little pop quiz for you. Hazard a guess at how many different versions of Olympia's lead single You Can Dance have appeared. Oh and while you're at it, how many differently-named tracks do you think were released from the entire Olympia project? Officially sanctioned releases only please; no unauthorised remixes or live versions. My game, my rules. No prizes; just a bit 'o' fun. I'll give you the answer tomorrow.
