I was bored so here's my comparison of BF and RP: Both born and raised in the North of England in the late 1940s One born on September 26th; one died on September 26th Both clothes horses Both were in bands before going solo; Vinegar Joe and Roxy Music Both signed initially to Island Records; both later signed to EMI One replaced Jess Roden in a band; one was supported by The Jess Roden Band Both recorded their most notable work at Compass Point, Nassau. Both associated with Power Station Studios/Bob Clearmountain in New York One had a hit single with Bob Dylan's A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall; one had a hit single with Bob Dylan's I'll Be Your Baby Tonight. One has a hit with Addicted To Love in 1985; the other had a hit with Slave To Love in 1985 One worked with Bernie Edwards and Tony Thompson of Chic; one worked with Nile Rogers, Fonzi Thornton, Michelle Cobbs and Tawatha Agee of Chic John Taylor of Duran Duran played with Palmer and produced a tribute album to Ferry Here's an arcane one: both played gigs at the unlikely venue of Aston Villa Football Club. Roxy Music released the DVD Live At The Apollo in 2001; Robert Palmer released the album Live at The Apollo in 2001. Neither have done anything much for 10 years... Errors and omissions excepted. "Neither have done anything much for 10 years..." Well if one is dead doesn't. Tbh, I never really liked RP and Ferry has got worse year on year since 2001. Do I hold out any hope for something decent from him on the next album? No, I just wonder how much of it will be re-workings of material from the Alphaville material, material that sounded better on a bootleg than it did on the versions officially released. The fact is Ferry is in his late sixties, his voice is shot and he's marking time till he feels ready to pack it in. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Chris Turner Sent: 07 April 2014 13:48 To: Simon Galloway; Avalon Subject: Re: [AVALON] Love Is The Drug...He's Addicted Now... He recorded several standards through his career, including a whole album called Ridin' High which included the track Love Me Or Leave Me, also covered by BF. Incidentally his favourite singer was Billie Holiday.
