Recognising that we have missed our Festive Gathering for a couple of years, I would like to propose a resurrection of something even more rare: the Easter Gathering. Well not quite, it would technically be the Week After Easter Gathering. The venue for this august event? Paisley's Bungalow Bar on Sat 25th April. If this has you thinking I've gone mad, there is actually a sound reason. This is the "not quite Glasgow" leg of a Chris Spedding Power Trio Scottish mini-tour (there is a "not quite Edinburgh" leg in the Perthshire town of Kinross the previous evening). Somewhere amongst my vinyl collection I have some mid-seventies albums from Spedding, pre his Ferry connection. (I liked the greaser/biker look and the Gibson Flying V, but I was only 14.) These include his version of Jump In My Car which was a number one hit for some Aussie band (in Australia) before being covered by The Hoff 30 years later in 2006. He also went on to be Robert Gordon's sidekick for a few years replacing Link Wray. (RG being another guilty pleasure of my record collection ;-) ) Anyhow the Roxy connection is tenuous enough to be valid. As ever the discussion on this evening should be of a high quality. There are questions to be answered. My contribution for your consideration will be: 1. Is it true that the "Better Together" campaign have evidence that Scottish Independence will mean that BF can't tour here anymore, and if he does that tickets will cost 5m bawbees. 2. If we drink ourselves into a coma, could we do a worse rendition of Johnny & Mary than BF? (The correct answer will, of course, be no!) 3. Has Ollie Thompson changed his name because he played on said recording? 4. More seriously, has the "complete studio recordings" box set been deleted? If the wider Avalonia would care to suggest other topics for discussion, then these too could be considered. (There must be a BF/Roxy connection though.) Anyway, I shall go along and pay homage to one of Roxy's finest non-members, if anyone from the "Tron Crowd" cares to join me and turn the occasion into an Avalonia Gathering, do get in touch. Regards to all.
