Hi Folks

In case anyone is stuck for a Christmas present idea for music loving friends
or just want a treat for yourselves, I unreservedly recommend the book 'The
Rhythm Method' by Nicky Forbes - aka 'Rocky Rhythm' - drummer of the excellent
band The Revillos, the later, longer-serving and undeservedly overlooked
incarnation of The Rezillos.

His well-written, very funny, utterly ghastly and ultimately strangely moving
account of life on the road with a fun band in the 80s which never quite
'made-it' is a great read. It's also an instructive 'learn from my mistakes'
account of the pitfalls for young people starting out and - perhaps - how to
avoid them; a recognisable story to anyone who's been in a band and - for
anyone who wishes they'd been in a band - packed with reasons why you should
be happy that you weren't!

You don't even need to be familiar with the band or music to get full
enjoyment of it; it's the process of struggle; near fame; rising egos;
collapsing moral fibre and health and coming to terms with loss of much of the
aforementioned which makes it so fascinating.

It also features a tiny anecdote concerning TGPT, who was once nearly a
Revillo, but . . . well, you'll have to read the book :)

I inadvertently bought direct from the author, and you can do the same on
Amazon or direct from his own site. It's cheaper, personally signed and the
team that produced it (independently) get more of the dosh. And no, I'm not on
a retainer.
