Are you referring to RM skipping the US on their tour? > K B Porter wrote: The American tour must have been exhausting, but the troupe should feel very exhilarated by the copious exuberance offered by the audiences. I hope BF comes back soon. The Olympia tour skipped the region of the country were I live so my family and I had to travel to LA. I expected exhaustion on last date of the tour but, because of the audience reaction, I think BF and Co. were invigorated. Viva referenced this: http://www.kovideo.net/bryan-ferry-attempting-us-comeback-news-bryan-ferry-43 36.html. A return may be sooner than we think, but I won't hold my breath. I wonder if there is enough time to prepare a different setlist by March? > K B Porter wrote: It still blows my mind that an overwhelming number of Americans have never heard of RM or BF! How did they miss them! I guess that will remain a great unknown for me... I recently read reviewer's article where the writer states something to the effect that 'once a fan of Bryan Ferry's, your pretty much on-board for life. Hooked, chain and bound? Something like that - I too am curious how RM (BF less so) has been misunderstood and basically ignored in the US. I am now 41 years old so, like other Americans my age, Avalon and Boys and Girls were the sum of my interest in Roxy Music. When RM regrouped and toured in the US I was a new mother and totally missed it! Hindsight reveals my questionable priorities. After the Concert for Diana I revisited old albums and, thanks to you tube, started working my way back in time and became obsessed with Roxy Music. How did I miss the boat with this band? I wasted years listening to imitators. I'm now on board - Hooked, chained and bound for life. I have only had the pleasure of seeing RM live once and now BF once. I treasure this music and smile knowingly when the "music lovers" around me liken BF to Engelbert Humperdink. Ignorant fools. I am happy for RM to be my secret treasure, but I am unhappy, shamed, a bit embarrassed, but not resigned that one of the greatest bands of all time does not get its due (here in the US) for a canon that sounds so fresh after all these years. > K B Porter wrote: it's a curious situation... As a relatively new fan I have a theory about this "curious situation" But first I would love to know thoughts from you professionals who have met them, been to shows around the world, and participated in the RM experience since the early seventies. Impressions, insights, disagreements, intimate details - I welcome any thoughts about the failure of US audiences to embrace RM. It weighs heavy on my petite brain. The biographies allude to frustrations but don't offer suggestions or reasons. > K B Porter wrote: Thanks, Sandra and Jocelyn, for answering. Now I have 'proof' there are at least three subscribers to Avalon List. Where did everyone go? (I realize > most of us are becoming crusties, but has dementia fully set-in?:) Happy Trails To You. KBP On the topic of becoming crusties, was anybody else (well, among the three of us) insulted by the "recent BF interview" comment that he enjoys the younger audiences because they're better dancers-10 out of 10?! Speak for yourself Mr. Ferry. I, for one, know I am at least as good a dancer as the glittery girls on the You Can Dance video. Now, where did I leave my keys?... - -SG ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V15 #222 ***************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
